Nehemiah DOS/Win98 build

In 2020, I built an Ezra-T based DOS mATX PC that has been absolutely great for playing DOS games. I wanted to expand on that and build something that would be good for both DOS and Win98. Also, thanks to Vogons, I have acquired a few parts and I needed a system I could test them on, and tinker with …

Re: Aladdin slowdown issue in pure DOS

MAZter wrote on 2021-12-30, 22:40: So try to check memory using MemTest86+ I just swapped the RAM, but still no difference. This is just so weird. Both games worked perfectly fine before the CMOS battery died. Got to be a BIOS setting that's interfering with EMM386.

Re: Aladdin slowdown issue in pure DOS

Some BIOSes, having the turbo mode set high or low in setup overrides or flips the sense of the turbo switch, so if you had it boot turbo on low, then you thought one setting was high, one low, so you've left it on high, but when you reset CMOS it went back to high and low setting is now high. No …

Aladdin slowdown issue in pure DOS

Hi, Aladdin used to work perfectly fine on my DOS PC. I just had to setup EMM386.EXE with EATXMS to restrict to 16MB. Then the CMOS battery died, and I tried to configure the BIOS back to the best of my recollection. Everything else seems to be working back fine, except Aladdin. It runs, but it's …

Re: Socket 370 VIA C3 Retro DOS PC

Thanks enaiel. I recently got the C3 cpu. However the motherboard which I got now is a different one. The seller first tested the MS 6368 board with the C3 cpu but it never posted (I noticed it was an OEM board despite the same model name). So he placed the CPU in another board - M6VLR v3 and it …

Re: Soundblaster player

Well the only thing that may not have been clear is perhaps I should have said OPL instead of soundblaster. My mention of Midi was purely to provide an analogy - I'm not looking to play midi files natively on an OPL device. Ideally I'd be able to download OPL game music and play the audio, without …

Re: Playing OPL soundtracks outside of games

What would it take to play the OPL versions of game soundtracks outside of the games? I quickly realized just getting a .MID and using FM synthesis playback is a no-go for anything resembling accuracy. Many of the games I'm interested in have internal music/jukebox modes or cheats, but I'm certain …

Re: Socket 370 VIA C3 Retro DOS PC

Just got to know from the seller that the C3 CPU is 600 MHz which seems to be a Samuel core. Any idea how Samuel cores fare with speed steps? According to CPUShack, there's really no major change between the Samuel 2 core and the Ezra aside from a smaller .13 micron process, lower voltage / power …
