Is it trying to send the MIDI through the game port instead of the waveblaster header maybe? I don't see a setting to switch between the two anywhere. I also don't see the MPU-401 device in the IRQ list.

I bought and used the y-cables, and nothing caught fire, so great success, I guess. I agree that listening to PC speaker output through both the case speaker and desk speakers would be maddening, but I'd only be using it for capture. The desk speakers would be muted during play.
