Re: 3 (+3 more) retro battle stations

It might be helpful for you to get a socket 3 interposer module and setup a trimmer on it so that you can have variable 3 to 4 V adjustment on any system. Where might I find one of these, would I need to source it from another 5x86 upgrade package? I really like this idea since it will keep me from …

Re: 3 (+3 more) retro battle stations

Some really good info here, thank you for sharing these results. I am curious why your Gigabyte GA486AM/S revision 2.2x wouldn’t run a POD at 100MHz? I have one that does just that at the fastest cache and memory timings. Might your board need a recap or a different bios or perhaps the UMC chipset …

Does anyone know which resistor controls the 4v CPU voltage on the LS486-D ? I’d like to try and apply Feipoa’s voltage mod to this board. I'm not sure what voltages you are after, but I just soldered a 180 K-ohm resistor in parallel with R16 to achieve 3.675 V on the 4V jumper. My notes indicate …

3.1 board runs with all settings on max except DRAM Read WS = 1 and IBC DEVSEL# Decoding = Medium. What OS you use ? I’m using Windows 98. How’d you get the 3.1 board to run with 2111 cache settings at 60MHz FSB? I’ve got 12NS modules, 256k total, and only 3111 is stable in Dos, Windows requires …

But also, it is not like I did detailed sound profiling. I tried an Awe64 and an ESS, both ISA cards. Windows startup sound was first I …

Alternative to Voodoo 3 would be a stretch, there is a reason 3dfx won the early accelerator wars for sure. There are too many compromises with the Rendition card. While it supports VESA 2.0, it performs poorly in many vga benchmarks and notably Doom, although there is a newly modified executable …

Re: My Very Long Bus Adventure.

Thanks, I should really update the first post. Keep us posted on how your build turns out. I usually buy from a seller on EBay who sells them as a pre-tested kit. You spend a bit more but I’ve never had a bad module yet. You can also make him an offer for $5 or so less than he’s asking and will …
