I recently put xyMDA (updated) text mode version of xyWords on Github https://github.com/techdistractions/xymda It has the source in Quickbasic 4.5 and I've left the license as Public Domain It was the first time using Github, or uploading my source anywhere public. Wish I did it earlier.. 😀

I'm curious how you got stunts to work with sbemu In my (limited) testing I get the "reservememory - OUT OF MEMORY RESERVING polyinfo P=28b HW=f02" when trying to load the game. It seems to happen only after HDPMI32I is loaded and no combination of switches or arguments seem to make any positive …

Very interesting, I second that. 🙂 👍 Makes me wonder if the game will run on early MS-DOS Compatible PCs. These aren't IBM compatible, but can run text-mode programs using MS-DOS API/ABI. Some also have a PC BIOS simulator. The original Tetris ran on such PCs, if I remember correctly. And Norton …

Nice, reminds me of an android app I used to play a lot called Wordscapes, which used to be decent 5 years ago, but turned into an Ad streaming app that lets you play a word game a few times an hour. I'm glad you mention this :-) I played the IOS variant for about a decade and am a very big fan. …

Working on a text-mode word puzzle targeting XT/256MB/MDA

During a recent itch.io dos game jam I created xyWords - a simple word game targeting IBM-PC XT and 4-color graphics. It was a fairly complete project and even managed to stretch in a puzzle editor. All done in Quickbasic 4.5 - a language I hadn't touched in about 25 years and the first programming …

I second that! 🙂👍 What comes to mind, does anybody of you in NTSC land have an RF modulator and a 1970s CRT TV? The IBM CGA board had an internal header for an RF modulator. That CVBS/Composite header was used for portables, too, I heard. I would love to see how such a game looks on a blurry TV set …
