Re: Amstrad Mega PC

@smsdave, That XT-IDE will do the trick :) I took out the two positive pins and soldered a wire to one of the vias... the negative pin solder directly into the farthest of the two points on the Mega PC mainboard, on a slight angle like I have. Put some tape under to avoid shorts. Then solder the …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

@smsdave, the CR2032 is removable so if I decide to ever put my Mega PC in storage i'll just take it out. The diode protects it from being charged whilst running so no danger there either. I had to modify the adapter from Amigakit.com and add a wire to make it fit. Its a nice solution overall, i'd …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

I've been working quite a bit on my Mega PC the last few weeks trying to repair the damage to my board and get my floppy drive working.. Here's what I found under the Floppy header 20201201_124159.jpg After some cleaning I managed to trace all tracks and repair 3 broken VIA's with small pieces of …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Ok, I uploaded the three Manuals to Google Drive Here.. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QFURp8tH2NvjlZ1eUxBdAbD1JfdqGKV-/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z3VVaAkS4IgL4r6iqLjexRbOQ34VEAsA/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WBUcOjex5Yx_DLiIbL332JrFhy0PMstV/view?usp= …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Ok :) I've scanned the Techinical Manual but realised its too big to attach here (Its 18MB, limit is 5MB). I can do the other two in the coming days.. just wondering how I can get them on here... @Dioxaz, Would you like to add them to your archive? @Zalog, Wow! That looks brill! I have an X5 but …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

I'm looking at putting one of those CR2032 adapters from Amiga kit in with the diode to stop the charge circuit.. The "Technical reference" looks just like a regular Mainboard setup user manual. No schematics or anything.. Here's some pages to show you.. Filename 20201123_214421.jpg File size 1.48 …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

I finally have my Mega PC! I've stripped it down and checked everything. The battery has caused mild damage which has taken out the funtionality of the floppy drive, but the HDD works perfectly and is still loaded with the stock software! I will take off the floppy and HDD headers and check all …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

That means its worse than a 486sx25.. but still a little better than the 386sx25... ok benchmark it just for a laugh 😁 Edit:- what about X-Wing?... Edit 2:- does the 486 aware BIOS recognise HDD above 500MB? And allow booting from CD?

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

@smsdave I have tried to find a clip on solution too but had no luck... so started to think how I could make my own with one of those Ti 486SXLC G50 CPUs. I can't seem to find the 100 pin QFP clip on sockets now either so maybe its going to take some time to figure out what to do, if anything at all …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Hi! I've seen these TI CPUs on several websites, too.. However, better be careful: " G chips are 3.3 with 5v I/O. 0 designation chips are 5v. So: G50 = 3.3v 050 = 5v Do not make the same mistake as me. Requires a 50MHz bus to run at full speed. " Source: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/80386/Texas% …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

I've decided to try to get my Mega PC shipped from UK to me in Denmark, its highly unlikely I will be travelling back in October to pick it up. I have 16MB of RAM ready to put in it and i've got some VRAM on the way. I also just bought a Ben Q BL702A monitor! @Zalog, I noticed you have an Amstrad …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

My story has a little progress. I finally got my Auntie to drag my Mega PC out of her garage and pass to my step dad to check it out. She says the monitor has certainly been thrown away (by accident) along with some other old PC monitors and towers previosly used by my cousin about 2 years ago... …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Dioxaz, thank you so much for sharing the BIOS!! Your site has lots of awesome stuff too, all the software!! Man, this thread is becoming epic! What is the ow362e16.exe program for? I'm still waiting for my Mega PC to be picked up and checked.. Kinda nervous on what condition it will be in. No luck …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Zalog, thanks for the interesting information! Its crazy how Amstrad failed with their desicions.. I think if they had just waited a bit and released the Mega PC with the PC7486slc board it may have been a different story. I understand the collector not wanting to let go of their BIOS so hopefully …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

Hey Keropi, nice to be aboard, looks really cool here! Ah yeah, ok it sounds pretty much impossible to make the original 386sx board run like the 7486... I hoped it was similar, never mind.. I will look into the GFX and see if its possible to put one of the newer WD paradise chips in.. I had a quick …

Re: Amstrad Mega PC

This thread is awesome! I found it when doing a search on upgrading the Mega PC with a 486slc.. I bought a Mega PC back in 1993 when the price was cut to £599. I'd lusted after one for some time but the £999 price was too high. I was shocked to find that it couldn't run some games any better than my …
