Re: Heavy Gear on Windows 7

DgVoodoo2 seems to have an FPS limiter now which fixes the speed issues in HeavyGear. 30 fps is a good value for the game in my experience. In "dgVoodoo.conf" look for: FPSLimit = 0 and change it to: FPSLimit = 30 Also I looked into the drive lettering issue and indeed HeavyGear does not like to be …

Are you sure that works with Heavy Gear 1? Like I said, my Googling did not suggest as much. Yes, I am sure that it should work with Heavy Gear 1 since I have successfully tested the game with it. What leads you to that conclusion? As per my previous post, frequently the driver order matters as …

Since you mentioned you are using a "backup" image file instead of a real CD I should point out that most virtual drives do not support cdaudio. In this case you will need to extract the audio tracks from the image file using for example bchunk. https://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/discussion/general/ …

If you want to use the ogg-winmm wrapper you need to rip the music tracks from the CD into .ogg files and put them in a "music" folder. Have you done this? Also there are multiple forks of ogg-winmm some of which can not play the music in HeavyGear. My fork should work with the game: https://github. …

One more thing: Take a look in the folder where you have Dxwnd.exe. If there is a winmm.dll wrapper file in that same folder remove it. There was a mistake in one of the Dxwnd releases where the wrapper was distributed in the root folder together with dxwnd.exe. Dxwnd builds 2.05.57 - 2.05.59 came …

Hmmm... I wonder if it could be related to the VirtualMidiSynth by CoolSoft? That is the only non Microsoft dll that appears to be loaded. Midi playback is handled by the MCI API so any kind of additional emulator or program that ties into the game executable and replaces or uses the API might …

I removed every file for the old version. I even tried the other options of the Sound tab for Dxwnd but nothing helps. I even tried installing to another partition but the same result. That is puzzling... I assume it is the first Rainbow Six game from 1998 and the system is Windows 10? Also …

Logs could tell more but one possibility is wrong track naming or an invalid audio format. Although Dxwnd supports .wav, .mp3 and .flac too the best compatibility is probably with .ogg files. Also the tracks must be named correctly. Use " track02.ogg " not "track 02.ogg" or "track2.ogg" or "track02. …

I post a feedback today about this bug, but i think that Microsoft will never see it... I want to use hexen II with CD Audio feature (is GOG version) and i don't want to use Source Port to "fix" it... It is important to distinguish between issues caused by Microsoft's mcicda driver bugs and issues …

For those of you who still use real genuine physical CD's to play old games on modern operating systems the cdaudio-wimm project might also be of interest. It aims to restore track repeat on Windows Vista - Windows 10 for games that use music tracks on the CD. https://github.com/dippy-dipper/cdaudio …

Strange, the music stops at menu. I decided to turn on the emulate cd pause capability and some other related options in DxWnd. Suprisingly it holds the music but not when you go one further step in menu. The music sometimes glitches and buffers. Not sure why but that MCI setting has effects. I …

The game crashes upon startup, did you use other fixes for it Heavy Gear patched to v1.2 works fine here using DxWnd 2.05.54: - Imported settings from "exports\Heavy Gear.dxw". - Corrected path field to point where I have the game installed. - Enabled Dxwnd options "Keep aspect ratio" and "Desktop …
