Re: Which of these sound modules should be removed?

The SC D70 is based on the 8820 so it's not a direct replacement of the 8850. But the SC D70 has both optical and digital via USB audio output that's mixed at a higher frequency than the 8850. So while things won't sound 100% the same, the SC D70 can give a higher quality ound. I'd recommend keeping …

Re: WP32 McCake : MT32 compatible waveblaster board

Will this device be useful for those titles that require an actual MT-32 and will sound wrong on an SC-55 or any other MIDI device? I believe the issue I'm thinking about was connected to intelligent mode stuff. I'm mostly clueless on MT-32 stuff so please excuse the weirdly worded question. 😅 I …

Re: Auzentech Prelude 40 pin header uses?

Old reviews for that card say the 40 pin header supports AD_LINK which is the pinout the Audigy 2 and other X-Fi cards use. I can't confirm it, but you could use a multimeter and see if the grounds and +5V pin line up. If it does those accessories should work with that card. https://pinouts.ru/Audio …

Re: Sound Blaster Settings Keep Changing

Is it worth using the Creative drivers anymore? I have similar possibly the same model Vibra in my 486 I've been tinkering with over the past few months. Unisound works like magic, you just run a SET BLASTER with the settings you want and then execute Unisound and the PNP settings are configured on …

Re: Fact review on graphics card purchase for XP

How would you record externally? Does this mean you have a separate computer with a capture card running which is there solely to record the output of the first computer? Correct, modern computers have multiple cores and hardware that can accelerate the recording process. IMO, a separate capture …

Re: Fact review on graphics card purchase for XP

So, it seems (in spite of the Wikipedia page saying it's supported in many recording programs) that there is a brief list of programs there which do. For instance, OBS (never used it) "relies on DX10 functions" and therefore is only for Vista and above. It could help in Windows 7. Bandicam (which I …

Re: Fact review on graphics card purchase for XP

I wonder if this helps with video encoding. Probably not. I have bottlenecks in the system but the GTX 460 wasn't one of them. The 750 ti includes the 2nd generation of NVENC, while the 460 didn't have NVENC support. With the correct tool this should provide a massive encoding performance increase.

It's possible they changed something, but you used to be able to sign up for a free Roland Cloud account and purchase Sound Canvas VA outright. You need to log in to activate the software, but there wasn't a recurring …

Re: Fact review on graphics card purchase for XP

The fans on a 750ti are very quiet, you shouldn't need to worry about having them stop completely. They aren't like blower-style coolers that force a lot of air movement. If you absolutely need to have custom fan curves you can modify them directly in the card's BIOS. The tools that change settings …

Re: MPU-401 DOS Audigy emulation no sound in Win98

Since you tried everything else, maybe try cleaning up the drivers. Run the Audigy uninstaller, then reboot into safe mode. Device manager will list any installed driver even if the hardware isn't present. Delete any Creative sounds devices for the Audigy or SB128. Next run regedit and delete HKEY_ …

Re: Fact review on graphics card purchase for XP

The GTX 460 didn't have great 98 game compatiblity either. It doesn't support 8-bit palleted textures, and I believe some fog table and shadow buffer stuff doesn't work. A GeForce 4 or FX would be the latest Nvidia cards to support those features and those are very much 98 cards as I also view XP as …
