In the meantime, I finally had time to test my custom DIY front bay. It seems to work well 😀 Find it here in case you are interested: https://github.com/bzeiss/retro-pcbs/ By the way: for the cable, I ended up simply using a 20-pin IDC cable and connected only 9 pins of it.

It's actually true. I have tested a two-row right angled socket against the floppy connector and the floppy connector is still higher. So an unshrouded 2-row right angled pin header might not be as high as we thought.

How about a usb-c socket? Maybe misusing those pins for something else is something that works...it's reasonably flat.

Hm, true point. It's probably thick enough already for the next slot to be used. The problem is that many cables that are not IDC are likely again trouble to source or not long enough. I think the improvements are very good. What I started to wonder when doing my custom floppy bay is whether the pins wouldn't be better in a 2x5 IDC connector layout. They'll possibly take slightly more space, but it's much easier to actually get those cables and they are pretty cheap. Plus having …

Unfortunately, I was too slow for the first batch 🙁 I have made a case anyway, I'm still iterating on it though... Edit: updated picture...I'm not to keen on the red though and probably print it again with a different color 😉

I'm curious though: it seems to be designed for use without a fan or heatsink. Won't that possibly cause thermal issues with the cm4?

Thanks. Same for me. Built a 486 and demoscene stuff without a GUS is just so incredibly annoying. I can also solder smd ic's so pcb only would also be an interesting option for me, but I guess it's not how shock intends to sell it.

Is there already a ballpark price for this once a public run takes place? I'm just curious about that in my decision whether to wait or grab something from ebay. I'm sure interwave +pcb+parts will be quite a bit more than the $30 or mentioned in the first post, right?
