I think more than any, the music and sound effects from the Doom Shareware are permanently etched into my brain. It was the first, and most voraciously played FPS I ever laid hands on, and FPS remained my favorite and most played genre for well over a decade.

Lately I ebay almost all my motherboards from Eastern Europe. So far I'm batting 3 for 3 on getting cheap, fully functional boards. Not the greatest sample size, but I'm happy with the results. Never had a hud, or an issue with customs.

That 16/32-bit issue with 3d acceleration I think was a generalized Win95 thing. I recall GLQuake said in a readme to make sure your desktop was set to 16-bit color in Win95?
