Re: The Roland CM-500 GS/LA Sound Module

You can check CM-500 buy connecting it to the another computer with DosBox or ScamVM and test how games play MIDI. It also could be a bad capacistors in the sound module or card. I can't check this as mine CM-500 is still in delivery Thanks! I checked and it does the same thing with dosbox running …

Re: The Roland CM-500 GS/LA Sound Module

I have a CM-500 but it seems to have a strange hanging note issue that is not caused by my MIDI interface (tried both an AWE32 and PCMIDI card—both my MT32 and SC55 work fine on both of these FYI). I notice it most often when I play Wing Commander 1, where if my ship gets damaged (causing a loud …

Re: Synthesizers that came with video game music

I got my Roland SC-8820 and tested them with different maps that it support. I used SFX.mid file to check it compatibility with MT-32, CM-32L and CM-64. And could say that SFX sounds sound very similar as may difference is in polyphony capabilities : some can only play 28 notes at ones (MT-32 & CM- …

Re: The Roland CM-500 GS/LA Sound Module

I recently got my MT-32 (old) and CM-64 modules, but no floppy with software for them. Could somebody share images / copies of original Roland floppies for this modules here on vogons? Also I'm looking for DOS editor for Korg NX5R/NS5R. Thank in advice for a help

Re: Sound Blaster 16 Clones

I have one and testing it at present moment. I'll say it very good platform for retro gaming - compact and have enough power. In DOS integrated SB16 can be easy configured via Unisound util. And DOS games well work with this SB16 clone - tested with Wolfenstein 3D

Re: Synthesizers that came with video game music

Saw, waiting on your video comperation of them. I thought that MT-90u is better then MT-90s. But your table shows other things. Uploaded the MT 90s vs MT-90U comparison: https://youtu.be/l6JpRC3YbM8 The SC-55mkII is used as a reference, as this was the target for Roland's own GS branded SMF …

Re: Synthesizers that came with video game music

I have an MT-90s and I personally think it is much worse than my SD-20 is on the quality of the samples it contains. Also, I'm pretty sure Duke 3D doesn't sound like that on my SD-20. It is possible that they had that thing configured to some crazy levels before recording it. But yeah, I was NOT …

Re: Synthesizers that came with video game music

Tones, Polyphony and Standards make impact on way how result sound will be generated. For me its not comparetion of something is better or worst. I compare all modules only from side of music esthetic and how they could sound on real instruments. As I'm not a professional musician but with musician …

Re: Synthesizers that came with video game music

As I know, MT-90u is development of MT-90s. Could you share your experience with them? I got MT-90s just for fun in low price. Also I found on the YT demo video with them and it sounds not bad. I think the 90s and 90u have different generations of the sound source. While they're nowhere as bad as …

Re: Synthesizers that came with video game music

[...] SD-20, which is frankly pretty awful (unless mine was bad or something). You're absolutely right. As can be heard in this comparison video , the SD-20 could be mistaken for an early Casio module with the reverb set to 129. I'd love to hear how the SD-20 came to be and passed through Roland's …

Re: Are there shipping delays from Buyee.jp?

in Milliways
At their warehouse! It was stored there since April, and when I wanted to ship it they could not find it again. And how all are finished? Did you get you package? No, I did not get it. Second time they lost it for good. I got my refund and a 1000 yen coupon. It sad that you lost your lot

Re: Radeon X1600 Pro compatibility with Windows 98

I think that building some kind overkill platform for Win98 is not bad idea as this allow to play any Win98 game on it maximum and get best experience. I also build such system on the Asrock 775i65g R2.0 with Radeon X800GTO (current as I need new PSU to return X850XT back in rig) with 512 MB DDR2, …
