Just give it a try and we can make a competition which version will look best :) Here is a map of first level, it has 4096x592 pixels, which gives 256x37 sprites, 16x16px each. You can split it in as many layers as you want, and upscale it 4x to 16384x2368. I tried some online free upscaling service …

Digital restoration: Titus the fox

in DOS
Hello guys, I am working on HD remake of Titus the fox game. I have used "cicoparser" to convert the game from 8086 binary into javascript. It has still some issues - you cannot kill any enemy, but the game mechanics works nicely. I have exported the game map and sprites to create an image of whole …

@gwlegion, unfortunately I cannot help you with that. Cicoparser was just my side job for fun, and I would like to switch to another project. And regarding porting Dune to ScummVM - for me it seems like Dune is not the best candidate for this at all, I dont know details on the gaming engine dune is …

I have finally found some time to make a demonstration video how a game can be completely rewritten into C++ in less than 25 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fAeUx8A-OE

Re: Porting DOS games to modern platforms

Porting the first game was most difficult. Because you are looking at the assembly instructions and sometimes you are not sure what they mean. Even little mistake means that the game wont work. To convert new game means to add support few new instructions and to solve new programming tricks. The …

@VileR, thank you very much for this. I always thought something is wrong with my palette @xcomcmdr, here are necessary changes for the cicoparser to support rep outsb and lods instructions: https://github.com/gabonator/Projects/commit/36f93070f8bd31ab88a144c8dca98c9c30f4abd9 generated code from the …

Re: Porting DOS games to modern platforms

Just small hint for now, when I will have some time I will push support for these two into the repository: rep outsb is a string operation. All classes responsible for parsing assembly string instructions are in matchers.h, and we are looking especially for CIMStringOp: class CIMStringOp : public …

Re: Porting DOS games to modern platforms

Wow, interesting. I knew that few games have been ported by converting assembly code into C and this guy has made something quite similar as my project, but if I am correct he has only ported music player/editor and stunts game. His approach is more universal and safer - he emulates all the flag …

It is still not ready for use by "general audience", but here is the code: https://github.com/gabonator/Projects/tree/master/XenonResurrection/Parser/CicParser2021 Sample configuration file, input assembly and generated code is here: https://github.com/gabonator/Projects/tree/master/ …

Porting DOS games to modern platforms

in DOS
Hello guys, few years ago I made an experiment where I translated the disassembled code of a game (Alley Cat, Star Goose) automatically into C++ or Javascript. It was just a proof of concept and a lot of things needed to be fixed by hand. I sporadically returned to this experiment to improve the …
