Does the controller card you just got work in another machine as well? Were you able to replace/mod the RTC? I've seen other people say that some motherboards can act oddly if the CMOS battery is flat.

Thanks for the advice mate, done all the tests above. I can confirm that pin 5 is ground on the continuity check and both pins 3 and 7 putting out around 10.5v like yours. I guess that means that the serial controller chip on the Mobo is probably screwed or the mouse is incompatible for another …

I'm sure you have, but just to double check, have you plugged in that 4 pin CPU 12V power connector? Also, 11V across that inductor coil doesn't sound right at all, the current would be massive. The one I've got has a 2.8GHz P4 which, looking at random places on the internet, is apparently ~70W. The X2 5200+ is a bit more at 90W. So my guess would be you should be ok, but the fan might …

The battery will be inside that big Dallas chip, which will either need replacing or modifying. There was a thread about the pros/cons: Dallas Real Time Clock. Replace RTC or add battery?

It does look UKish ('£' on shift-3). Differences I can see are the '#' key would be by the enter key, the '\' by the left shift, and it's missing '`' (the backtick mark) above the tab key. I'm assuming they just moved a few keys to save some space.
