Re: Beige-Beast

Nice system! I especially like the cable management, even though the red colour is maybe a little crazy hehe. You don't have to have Isa sound card according to some members here but I'd personally get a sb16 non pnp to conserve the conventional memory. If you dual boot you can make use of the SB …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Personally my problem is that l want to optimize my character(s). This usually involve a lot of research. Some games like never winter nights 2 I never finished because I just could not decide lol. And, I prefer baldurs gate's way of auto leveling up companions or I usually feel totally overwhelmed …

Re: Upgrading semi modern pc ssd

Ok thanks for the opinions! I think I'm going to go with a SATA 1 tb drive probably the Evo 870 that seems so popular. The reason is mostly because I simply won't the able to fit some games on my SSD drives soon. Maybe it was GTA 5 I had to make room for can't remember.( I seldom play new games to …

Upgrading semi modern pc ssd

in Milliways
So on my most modern desktop pc I have a MSI Z77A-GD55. I think I'll stick with it for a while as it can play the games I like with my overclocked i5 processor and GeForce 1070 and 16 GB of ram. But I realize I need to upgrade the SSD as I'm starting to get problems installing some games on one of …

As a long time fan of role playing games who's only dabbled with (and not really understood) isometric turn based games, I suspect I'm missing out on some great experiences. I need something modern to get me going so I'm trying my hand at Pillars of Eternity II (PoE 1 sounded great too but I liked …

Yeah I think the calculated shipping time is key. If it's more than a week I stay off it. I'm get a SATA converter next Wednesday so it's probably from within Europe in my case.

Re: Compaq armada 1750

Yeah I will probably get one of those. Just not that one because I risk paying like 25 $ in toll and weeks of delay due to it not being sold on Amazon marketplace and not by themselves.. Happened me the other week so I have started being more careful on amazon. 😒

I saw there are some 2.5" ide to msata. The total solution would set you back around 50-60$ (ca 2x what i played for the rest of the computer 🤣) and I doubt you'd really would get even close to the full speed with it.

Re: Compaq armada 1750

Thanks! If I don't find any ready solutions I'll probably settle with a SD card solution as I have some cards with ok-ish speed. Maybe not SSD fast but good enough. The problem with pata SATA converters is that some drives just won't read and that would be frustrating if I buy a converter I can't …

Re: Compaq armada 1750

I am hoping one turns up for you soon. Today I got SP16706 which only listed the E and M Armadas, which shared some previous graphics driver updates, because it was a 2001 release and there was nothing later than Jan 99 listed for 1750, which wouldn't know about DX8. So I unpacked it, then did it …

Finally I found a caddy. Hopefully it fits! Will see next week. 😀 Then my next adventure begins, finding an SSD and a converter that fits! 😁

Re: Bought a box of stuff

box of stuff type purchases can contain treasure or junk, often a mix of both, yours looks like it was worth it though! Yeah it is kind of buying one of those Kinder eggs (but I heard they are forbidden in the US). Keep the card for when you get a chance to fix it. Soldering SMD/ceramic caps is not …

Magic 3.5" Disk Drive

Buying weird stuff online, its kind of a hobby of mine I guess. An external floppy drive caught my eye for a few bucks so I bought it. Its connected with parallel port and powered by an dc power supply. IMG_20210603_214804.jpg IMG_20210603_214749.jpg So what is it anyway and what makes it magical? …

One of them is close to one of the empty ram sockets (at the edge) the bigger one is in the middle of the board... both are on the back side. I found a loose cap on my working table.. Figured I was too rough when cleaning it but when I look at the pictures I took before cleaning I see it was already …

Mm so after some testing I've found out the voodoo 2 card is not functioning. It's recognized by windows and installs but crashes when I boot up a game. After some careful investigation I noticed that two of those small ceramic surface mounted capacitors are broken off.. I don't have the skills to …

Re: Movies for a 486 computer ?

Yeah you probably need some sweet hardware acceleration for this. I remember that showcase video for pentium mmx, a technology which somewhat opened up for software rendering I guess? Think it was an eye on the video moving in high resolution, that you showed off to all your friends with lesser …
