Ok, I see there are only 4mb modules and 16mb modules. No 8mb modules. I guess these 16mb modules are good only for sound blaster 😀

Board is KMC-A419-8 VER 1.0, no jumpers for memory.

It seems the board does not support it, but it will show up 16mb if I put 4x16mb. So I think it can read the module, just cannot load all of them. If I put 2x16, it wont start at all.

I need to google what that means. So 8x8mb modules could work or 8x4mb modules? The cpu is 386dx-40 onboard soldered plus I added IIC 4c87-40 floating point unit coprocessor. I read that only 386sx have stripped down architecture and allow only 16mb ram total.

Hi, I bought 4x16mb simm 30pin modules on ebay. Normally, they are probably for some old Mac. I know you need to fill at least 4 slots of 8 in 386 with the same module. Putting this in my board show up only 16mb, not 64mb. And after a minute the computer freeze no matter if you boot already or still …

Got it after 2 days! Ddma and Tdma use pci bus master operation according to datasheet. Wdma does not. I use wdma 110 same as you, but sound was cut. Disabling pci bus mastering solved the issue!!! IRQ can be 5 or 10. Does not matter. But address for me must be 240h and dma 1, otherwise it will …

Did you solve the cut sound issue? I have Compaq Deskpro EN. Added ESS 1938S and it is working only using pciset and wdma modes. But the sounds are always cut. Tried all irq and address and dma configurations. It does not really matter. Compaq bios has pci bus mastering and pci serr generation …

Added active fan cooling, even stock G450 PCI did not have, and sleep issue seems to be solved. The time to sleep decreased with the time PC was on and time to hard reset was shorter and shorter, which points me to overheating problem. So the fan seems to fixed that and even Lotus DOS game is …

progbios -d will run correctly and dump pins to output, so eeprom can be read. It will also read serial number

Yes, R. Loew's LIMITMEM.SYS works as expected. Much better than all these HimemX / HimemX2 and HimemSX and JemmEX versions. Hm, I will report this bug on HimemX Github and hopefully with this evidence I will be taken more seriously there.

It does not matter really. Problem is that 50% of DOS apps will not run due to Total RAM and/or XMS, which I try to solve. Some apps check total ram, some apps check free ram. Carmagedon 3dfx DOS needs at least 24m of XMS. The only solution here seems to try some older himemx versions and trial and error.

For me Himem.sys will freeze unless I put /NUMHANDLES=80 parameter. I have also pure dos7.1 boot from win98se. That 16mb happen only if I enable memory hole in BIOS. I need to investigate some other himemx versions. Jemmex is very incompatible with dos games even I replace dos4gw with dos32a.

Around 50% of DOS apps will not run due to this. Either they complain they need AT LEAST 8MB of memory or they will completely hang during the start. For example Death Rally and Project X. They run on another machine with 128M of RAM.
