Re: What game are you playing now?

The music was really good as well, composed by Jeremy Soule of Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim fame. Here's one of the more memorable tracks. Heh, I guessed what that track was before clicking it and I haven't even played the game. I may have checked the soundtrack out before. Soule can do great stuff, …

Ah well. I congratulate you on pushing through. I know how those games can be. Thanks! And yeah, there's no question would I have enjoyed it more had I played it at launch (and preferably had been into D&D, which I am not). As someone who in general doesn't like black and white high fantasy and …

Finished Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition , after who knows how many attempts of playing all the way through it and being a pain in my ass for 20+ years Baldur's Gate is finally done and beaten! And what an ending it had, straight to credits immediately after the main antagonist bit the dust. No end …

I have a confession. I have beaten all of the Fallouts, except for 2, which is a classic. In my last playthrough, I stored a bunch of stuff in my car, which got stolen. Apparently you can't beat the game if that happens for certain items. I'm still butt hurt and haven't gone back to it. You could …

Titan Quest Anyway, I'm having a blast so far! It's very similar to Grim Dawn (2016), which I guess was developed by many of the same people. GD also uses the same engine, so no wonder they feel similar. I've been very close to buying Titan Quest several times, but every time I go look gameplay …

Reached the city of Baldur's Gate in BG: Enhanced Edition and I'm, once again, already running on fumes. But dammit, I'm not giving up this time, I'll snail my way all the way through it even if it takes months to do so. I don't think there's all that much left anyway, I've cleared everything south …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

NFSIISE 3Dfx has a gamma correction hotkey, which helps remove the washed out look. It should be F12 or so. Interesting! Pretty sure I looked around the documentation but saw nothing like that, have to test that at some point. Thanks for letting me know, maybe 3d accelerated NFS2 with Voodoo3 isn't …

Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition going surprisingly well so far. As expected roaming around the wilderness is still fun to me. Also as expected dialog and quests are still awful, the game can be so stupid it makes me feel like banging my head against a wall at times. One of those few games where, as …

Its sequel, Shadows of Amn, is a much better game IMO. It has a stronger story as well as better defined party members that come with their own agendas and make comments and suggestions on certain quests. I agree, even though I think BG2 is also way too long for its own good I've still managed to …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I'm curious what you mean by Baldur's Gate not having content/length in equilibrium. Do you think it's too long without enough to do? The areas are too sparsely populated? Or something else entirely? It's partly of what I personally enjoy about CRPG's and Baldur's Gate not really gelling with that …

By comparison, WarCraft II is far more forgiving. For starters catapults and ballistae don't one shot several infantry at once. And in the campaign at least, the AI seems far more docile, giving me ample time to scout and build my economy. So I'm finding this far more enjoyable than the first …

Re: Old PCI cards and Lucasfilm games in DOS

Cards like that are hit and miss when it comes to DOS compatiblity, but most/all old LucasArts games are also sensitive to CPU speed causing issues with audio. Some of them got updates that fix those issues and some didn't, if you are running a faster CPU look for those updates and/or slow down you …

Re: Old PCI cards and Lucasfilm games in DOS

Most of them works flawlessy, but some models does not work in Lucasfilm games as Monkey Island 2, Indy Atlantis or Day of Tentacle (the only game that ever works is Monkey Island 1). In these games completely lack sound or horribles random notes (or noises) are sent to speakers. Cards like that …

Re: Suggestions for w98se GPU with DVI out

OK, well all I can do is try and see how it goes, I suppose! Is it the case that monitors with VGA inputs are naturally better at accepting these low resolutions, or does the connectivity not have anything to do with it? My current monitor (a 32" 1440p AOC) still has VGA and DVI and the picture …

Re: Suggestions for w98se GPU with DVI out

In my own naive understanding, it seems to me that a 1440p monitor would be ideal for this kind of thing since you can integer scale the image from 640x480 and 1280x720 inputs? I would think that if you only need to double or triple or lines then the scaling shouldn't be too much of a problem for …

Re: Suggestions for w98se GPU with DVI out

Yeah not much I can do about the picture quality, are there alternative cards that fare better? Would I be better off using an external scaler or line doubler or something (I'm not an expert with those devices)? There's no escaping from loss of image quality from resolution scaling, I don't think …

Re: Suggestions for w98se GPU with DVI out

I just also want to make it clear that the reason I am looking for something with DVI is that I would need to connect it to a modern monitor through a DVI-HDMI cable - am I wasting my time here? I feel like it should be OK, as long as the monitor supports the resolutions I am using, right? If you …
