Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

On the plus side, I managed to get the fog working in NFS3 on Radeon cards: Confirmed, great stuff! One thing though, I gave that NFS4 modern patch dx7a.dll a go with NFS4 and noticed it doesn't fix the blurry text issue but did offer high resolutions. Then I went back to NFS3 modern patch dx7a.dll …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

Does replacing EACSND.DLL with the version from NFS4 help with that? I don't remember encountering any crackling on my system, but I haven't played the game extensively (aside from testing) in quite a while. Unfortunately no, complains about version mismatch. Wants version 18.3 and the version from …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

I found a workaround for the resolution limit. Relevant steps: I don't understand at all how you can just swap a glide dll to a d3d dll and I understand even less how on earth did you even figure all that out, but it works great! Nice job! Had a little trouble first, turned out it doesn't work with …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

Out of curiosity, is it possible to select resolutions higher than 800x600 (for NFS3) and 1280x1024 (for NFS4) with that DLL? For some reason, the games won't let me go higher than that on my Radeon cards. Nope, I noticed the same thing. Actually in fact NFS4 tops out at 1024x768 with that dll on …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

BTW, I think you might be able to copy over the d3da.dll file from Porsche Unleashed that I attached earlier to NFS3 as well. It won't fix the fog in that game, but maybe it will have fewer graphical glitches than with the DLL from the modern patch. The modern patch dll doesn't have any graphical …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

A bit late to the party, but I've been testing NFS: High Stakes on my Radeon X800 XT and encountered the same issue: it crashes at launch with Catalyst 6.2 drivers. However, I found a fix of sorts. You can take dx7z.dll from the "Drivers" subfolder of NFS: Porsche Unleashed, rename it to d3da.dll …

Be vary that it's a bit speed sensitive. A few sections cannot be completed correctly on machines faster than a Pentium MMX 233 or something like that. I think only one of them is plot critical though. To be clear, I'm talking about the retail CD version. I never played the enhanced edition, though …

It's a shame because I feel like the adventure genre is ideal for exploration, especially if you feel like problem solving instead of action. The Colonel's Bequest feels ahead of its time in this respect. It was all about exploration and gathering information rather than puzzle solving. Thanks! …

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis This one is pretty interesting, a game from 1992 that has: - Three different paths through the game that have different solutions to many puzzles: Wits, Team and Fists - Randomized puzzles that differ a bit from game to game - Three different endings, bad, not …

The Curse of Monkey Island The third game in the series, first time playing. I suppose the reputation of not being as good as the first two have kept me away from the third and fourth game in the series, but since I got the discs for this with Monkey Island Bounty Pack rerelease I got some time ago …

The Secret of Monkey Island : As great as ever, still brings a near constant smile on my face and occasionally even made me laugh out loud. Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game! Maybe the part where you need to learn the insults and their comebacks drags on a bit, but it doesn't take …

Summer has finally arrived to my neck of the woods, the time when I always drop off anything heavier and go for lighter easy to pick up stuff. And to my delight I've gotten in the mood for point and click adventure games, been a few years. Time to revisit some old favorites and hopefully some others …

[Have my original disks, map, manual, but got rid of the original box] I never understood why people do this. I do it to store the discs on a CD/DVD wallet and the manuals elsewhere with games I like enough to keep but aren't amongst my favorites just to save some space. I've been wondering should …

Re: Sam & Max Hit the Road: Best Slowdown Utility/Settings?

I tried doing throttle 7 with Sam & Max and while the game actually seemed to run, the sound was choppy and the mouth movements weren't in-sync with the speech because they were animating too slow (speech would end before their mouths stopped moving by a lot). Running throttle 6 just gave me a …
