Re: The frustrations of the GPU market

in Milliways
just play old games, they're usually better anyways ^^ That would normally be a "boomer" opinion, except its actually kinda-sorta true. There's a whole library of amazing retro and older AA games that don't require much GPU power to enjoy these days. You don't have to limit yourself to overpriced …

Re: The frustrations of the GPU market

There is a ton of Doom-and-Gloom in this thread. The PC market is terrible right now, but i don't forsee it staying this way forever. Miners wouldn't be that big of an issue if we weren't having supply problems. I suspect once the chip shortage pipeline gets unclogged and some of those news fab …

Re: CRT nostalgia vs the 15KHz monitor whine

in Milliways
If that high pitched CRT whine doesn't bother you: Either your *old*, or somehow grown use to it. I love my CRTs, but i can't be in a room with one for more then a few minutes before i start feeling physically ill from that high pitched noise. Iv had a few quiet CRTs though, those i keep.

Re: Is there Anyone "Overpaying" for Hardware and Proud of it? Well, maybe not Proud, but...

Deal Hunting really just depends where you are located. In my part of town there was a huge E-Waste incentive years ago that ate up most of the CRTs and older computers. Occasionally you'll find something if you put out a "wanted" ad but most of it is either gone or already in the hands of other …

All types of us must live together in this world. I mean we don't have to, we could fight about it Honestly, seeing how this thread started off asking a dangerous question, the roasting of Libby, and now i guess us all coming to terms with this just being how the hobby works.... Nah people are …

If its going to be expensive retro it has to be new old stock. Refurbished is not just removing dust. Collectables are worthy expense in good tested working order. Untested crap is usually dead or dieing. Thes best is getting it elsewhere than online like at garage sales and opportunity shops they …

Iv thought about building my own keyboard! It certainly looks like a fun project, but I'm happy enough with my Razer Huntsman Mini. "It just works". I don't have to worry about my shitty non existent soldering skills or whatever. I got it for a decent price and there are a few easy mods you can do …

Re: Market value for popular or rare classic computer hardware

BIG IMO: I think most of the disgruntle over how expensive parts are would be alleviated if we had more interesting hardware clones. Yes there's Mister, but Mister is also just a box with an motherboard inside. A very capable box as it can replicate multiple systems, but I can't plug in an actual …

Re: Happy for having old Hardware/Software

Hi, So with all the BS going on in the world, I am very happy to have a Pentium 3 running Windows 95/VS6.0/MASM. Just need MP4's and MP3's sorted and it should be just that little bit better. No social media, and I'm just about to turn off my Samsung S9, although I am considering running up one of …

Re: Whats your experience in importing motherboards?

in Milliways
Russia and the eastern European countries seem to have a large amount of older hardware in general, I've bought a few old motherboards and GPUs from Russia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Belarus, Kazakhstan and a couple of other old eastern bloc countries. I can back back this. Iv ordered a ton …

But buying retro computer things to flip later, presumably for ugly inflated Ebay prices and then claiming "There are no wrong ways to go about the hobby as long as you're enjoying yourself and not making other people's enjoyment suffer". Idk man. Sounds like you enjoy seeing peoples wallet suffer. …

I'm somewhat of a hoarder and am pretty much fine with it. I have thousands of motherboards, expansion cards, drives etc. The place I live is a hardware disaster. I don't quite let it get to "fire hazard" levels and keep things sanitary. Here's iunno, about 2% of my stuff. 489d42bc-d9d9-4c5c-9284- …

Re: Market value for popular or rare classic computer hardware

A hoarder to me is like what you see on one of those TV shows: Where a room of the house is just littered with stuff (junk, collectibles, toys, dolls, whatever) everywhere, nothing is organized, people are tripping over everything just trying to move around. That's probably an extreme worst case …
