Most likely the faster CPU is stressing the system more than it can handle due to age. When you go into Windows, the stress is there unlike when in BIOS. I'm with cyclone3d on it being some old caps which may not be leaking but just bad. There's no way Windows 98 has an issue with that processor …

So back on topic, I'm a sucker for horizonal cases with monitors on top. Are there any still being made that aren't super sleek anodized HTPC boxes that cost $200? That may be what I'd consider for my next retro build since vintage cases are like unicorns.

A typical hole saw has too large of teeth and will probably wreck the shield unless you use a press. I would recommend a punch or cutting it with snips after you get a small starter hole.

I've got a 22" Dell P2213, while it doesn't switch automatically, it does have a 4:3 and 5:4 mode which is handy. I don't like the small image though and prefer to use My 19" Hyundai B90A for 1280x1024 resolutions.

Excellent advice, thank you. I would like to figure this out as a lot of these game patches want something newer than XP. Even the newer Diablo 2 installers won't work. All this is probably enough for a thread of it's own if it's not already.
