Correction: 100nf are bypass not decoupling. My bad 😀. And without decoupling caps the circuit would be broken anyway.

I have two of these cards, but how do I determine the capacity? I don't see any markings on them. Also, which 12MB version do you have? That's the problem - you can't determine it if you don't know. When trying to measure it in-circuit the capacitance of connected p-n junctions of active elements …

Seen that. There's no STB and its layout is very different from standard Voodoo. From those diagams they can possibly be 1nf, 100nf or 150 nf, but which I can't discern.

Funny. Your setup is really similar to mine, except I use k6-2 450 and verite 2200 8mb as a primary card. It's decently fast albeit a bit quirky and has a nice D3D compatibility for that period. A Voodoo 2 in this machine also works nicely.

Wherefore art thou, sdz? Or anyone? I could start prodding it blindly with a multimeter, but I'm afraid it'll show false positives on a populated board. That and too many points to check.

Whoa, DerBaum, thanks a lot! Didn't know that much info on them existed at all. On the other hand, they seem to be mere interface cards (wouldn't guess with that many ASICs and all) and almost no hope they'd work standalone... But very educating nevertheless.

I only found out they're from some kind of DAW. Not much info on them. When I first saw them thought they were SCSI controllers... I wonder if this break-out box has any complex schematics.

There were actually more of them than I remembered: a total of 15. Here is a photo of the connector's footprint from the back side of the board with affected holes marked. Numbers are: 2, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 26, 34.

About six holes are broken (the plating is partially ripped off, one's fallen out completely), when I got this card I inspected it through a microscope and saw that. On a side note: these PV830s catch an awful lot of static. With my crappy old PSU if I use a PV as a master card the picture gets all stripey. But with an STB it's smooth as a mirror.
