I've got an Asus A7N8X board (nForce2 chipset) that refuses to make any beeping sounds, even when the system is working fine. Not sure if you're experiencing the same thing as me, but that might be something to keep in mind for the future.

Does the system beep and sound like it's still booting? Could be corrupted VBIOS. Plug in a working video card beside it and use that one to boot into Windows. Does the Banshee show up under device manager?

The battery in the Dallas chip is almost certainly dead. I know some motherboards don't like to turn on with a dead battery, but I'm not sure how common that is with a board of this era. Still worth considering though.

I don't know if it would fix your problem, but 1GB of RAM will make Win98 unstable and flaky. I think 512MB is okay, but I always go with 256MB to be safe.

25A on 5V is usually the minimum recommended specifically for an Athlon system. If your 486 is running stable, you don't have anything to worry about.

PCChips M912 32 MB of RAM on one 72 Pin SIMM is that 32MB EDO module? I don't think this system will boot with an EDO Module installed. I also had run a cache checking utility and it didn't report any issues with the cache so I dont think the cache is bad I've got an M912 and it does actually work …
