Maybe it has bad ram, and installing the drivers allows it to start using the additional ram that is bad.

You are supposed to use the monitor's hardwired vertical stretch knob to scale the game to the correct aspect ratio. I can get you a better photo if you want; I just happened to already have this one.

Yes, please send me the files by PM. I can't estimate the cost until I put everything together but it doesn't seem like it will be crazy. I'm in the US. The boards are small; they should ship cheaply enough.

Makes sense; I understand it's more likely to be an informal situation. There is a recycling day/swap meet coming up in my town but it says no computers for recycling and for the swap, no electronics older than 10 years...no fun at all.

I checked with a magnifier; just the reflection of some extra shiny solder. I should probably take the board entirely out and check for cold solder joints on the bottom, but I can't figure out what would only affect vertical motion. Is there an inductor visible? I understand that those often fail.
