Re: Need graphics driver for Intel Atom D2500

in Milliways
I found a win7 x64 driver of dubious providence for this chip... but as it is dubious providence.. :( The 'official' statement from intel is/was "no" for 64bit os on this gpu. That said, you might try looking in dell, toshiba, and ibm/lenovo driver archives. Sometimes bespoke versions of the driver …

Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

wierd_w , I fully agree with your point. My current SBEMU on CMI8738 test system does not have any PCI or ISA NIC adapter installed, so I decided to use interrupt 5 over 7 for the SB16 emulation as it is completely free. If I add some NIC adapter I may switch to default interrupt 7 for the SBEMU. …

Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

@analog_programmer Phht! You and me both! I'm getting old enough now to start being mindful of my own forgetfulness, so you're in good company! I've been suffering the Mandella Effect more and more often these days! I agree with you over preference for IRQ5 over 7, and for the same reason. I really …

Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

For the record, It was abundantly clear to me that JEMM is not aiming to be an EMM386 clone. It does not report the same EMS handler name, and does things quite a bit differently than EMM386, presumably with an emphasis on "Doing things better, and not being constrained by legacy behavior" If you …

Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

I read about the problems with port trapping with addresses lower than 100h with EMM386.EXE and maybe the best solution for compatibility will be some patched EMM386, but this is forbidden topic here. I don't see why it's forbidden, to modify a proprietorial program? It's not necessary to modify …

Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

At that kind of sample rate its audiophool scam Agreed, you probably wouldnt be able to notice much above 48khz... but... It WOULD let you more easily software mix two or more streams of legit 44100hz digital audio together without smashing them, which would be good for digital audio effects from a …

Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

I added an extra zero there... whoops... but still, the actual spec DOES top out at about the top end of bat hearing. 96khz/24bit, is the minimum requirement for "High definition audio". At that kind of sample rate, having SSMD instructions in play might be kinda nice to have. 😜

Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

I did not mean to imply it wasnt trying to be a better ems simulator. More, that it needs to impersonate emm386, and do things the way emm386 does things, in order to get the compatibility of emm386. Emphasis on ensuring windows cannot tell the difference, and neither can dos programs.

Re: SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97

I dont see how that would be that useful; Himem.sys is usually not the roadstop, it's EMM386 that is. I have however, used it just fine with QEMM.SYS. If we could make a "Fake" EMM386 (FOSS reimplementation, cleanroom style, that supports loadable modules, and presents itself exactly like MS's EMM), …
