This is from the manual of my motherboard : IDE PORTS - 2 Enhanced IDE channels on board.(Using IRQ14,15) - Support Mode 3 IDE & ATAPI CD-ROM. - Driver Support DOS, WINDOWS, OS/2, NT, Novell. Should be fine.

I switched to a completely new hard drive (SanDisk SSD PLUS (SATA, 240 GB)) and it works fine now. => the SATA/IDE adapter with the JMicron JM20330 Chipset is ok Thank you.

I will not do that mod. A friend had a spare PSU with 30A on the 5V line and I will use this one with the new board as the original Asus A7A266 no longer works (possible fried when the old PSU died).
