Re: Anybody still coding for DOS/Win16/Win32?

I'm not writing games or anything useful... I'm poking and prodding this thing until it does something worth documenting... so I can run back here with it and bragpost. Then sit back and wait for the 20 new YT videos of guys who suddenly and mysteriously discovered the same thing. Gonna be waiting a …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Wish I had more time. Got a game of Quake II and Colin McRae Rally 98 going on the Pentium Pro 180MHz 64mb Win98SE box. Actually have been trying a bit of anything and everything that supports Glide on this box, now that I have a Voodoo II 12mb PCI. I don't think I've never not had a game going of …

Re: declining utility of older systems

Hmm... Can't complain, myself. I have about 6 machines running MSDOS of some sort, spanning one end of the MSDOS PC timeline, to the other end. They all have Iomega ZIP drive (4 are internal IDE, one is parallel port), and 10BASE-T network card (those 8 bit ones were not easy to score). 3 of them …

Re: soldering/desoldering methods

Re: soldering/desoldering methods

When I absolutely do not want to damage the PCB pads and traces, I'll use something like Chip Quik SMD 1 kit. It has a special solder that has a low melting point and stays molten for much longer than regular solder. SMD chips just slide off pads and DIPS just pull right out of the board when using …

Re: Why did you join Vogons?

Because my family and a few coworkers have been urging me to be more social. I used to be very social. Dare I say, cool, even. Been there, done that, I'm done now.. thought I served my lifetime sentence of all that. So... I guess I'll try to say some more stuff about the subject matter here, and see …

Re: CRT experience

I think everyone should own a couple. Yeah, I love CRTs. I counted 17 of them in my small apartment. They're bulky and heavy, and I ain't a big dude. But I'll jump right in that dumpster to recover that big ol' tube, haul it over to my car, wrestle it in there somehow, no problem. I've had to move …
