In fact, If the regulator wasn't on the motherboard and you had to install a new one, I'd think that the motherboard is missing more parts, specially around the regulator, or that the regulator you're using is not suitable for this board. …

Hi, according to this thread, that RTC is a clone of the MC part. BTW, I'd say you have a shortcircuit related the battery because in normal conditions it takes more than some weeks to get discharged.
