Hi P5PKL-AM/PS has the pci bus behind a pci-e to pci bridge. Maybe legacy ports aren't propagated. SB support on wdm drivers is pure sw, vxd drivers use acceleration from hw that need access to legacy ports. Wdm drivers don't include fm music emulation, you can try to select general midi music.

Hello, Have you tried to use extension window 0 for sb, writing 0x220 to base register ( pci config space 44h), 0x23f to limit register ( config 48h) write 0 to bit 0 of config space 65h and finally write 1 to bit 0 of config space 64h. Config space 66h should have the default value of 0x6

Any pci card would do, if your bios assigns that irq and the pci irq map for the slot corresponds to it. You can also use a pci-lpt card and another midi to parallel port device. I think that ensoniq doesn't, because the midi port is assigned to software synth.

If you cannot use subtractive decoding, you can try to program i/o ranges 0x220 and 0x388 on the two extension windows that the bridge provides

Is there another bridge on that system? You cannot enable subtractive decoding on more than one.

That card is not sb16 compatible, try with wss or sb pro (or covox/disney sound source) Run the diagnistics program and check the sound there. Verify mixer levels.
