Re: high speed vanilla pc/xt clones

in Milliways
It wouldn't be 100% IBM compatible if it didn't run optionally at 4.77mhz. If you throw that out then you get single frequency machines using 8088 cpus at various clocks. From as low as 3.5Mhz (Sanyo 1000??) upto 10Mhz. They however were DOS compatible but not PC, as frequency matching was the easy …

Upto 10Mhz for sure, 8Mhz being very common and where the turbo button comes from. Turbo will reduce the clock down to 4.77Mhz exactly matching the IBM PC and XT. Mine is an 8Mhz even has the rom slots for Basic (though didn't come with them)

Re: DOS Background music player (OPL)

OK, found it... "The Soundtracks folder contains a the SONG.EXE TSR that allows with the help of the Voyetra Media Player to play music in the background, incl. playlist support." https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=36474 Don't suppose anyone archived aztec ftp site, doesn't appear to be valid …

DOS Background music player (OPL)

Does anybody know if there is a program that can play a list of OPL music in the background whilst doing non game stuff in DOS? Ideally a small, fairly fast TSR that just takes a list of music files (Ideally OPL2 or 3 based) and plays them in a loop whilst doing things like programming on a DOS …

Re: 3D games you would like to see in high resolution

Yes I know YMMV is what I meant. You may like it or not, its purely an personal choice. SVG weren't invented back then, vector formats had many many issues at the time. Whilst some games of course did use them (Flashback, Flash games and even some early graphical text adventures), its not a format …

AI upscalers on the original sprites sheets can help with higher res ports (used on some consoles games). It works fairly well but not sure I like it personally but if you want to have 'higher' res sprites, its one possibility. As with all remakes its putting data that wasn't generated by the …

Re: Games that modulate alphatests

Very interesting, i'd assume it wasn't working because of the reflections potentially doing depth conflicts [/quote] IIRC We had alpha in the texture and then used vertex alpha to add some variation as the trail moved. We use alpha test to cut the edge completely for performance. Some of the …

Re: Games that modulate alphatests

Modulating the alpha was fairly hit and miss on a variety of earlier cards, so wasn't used a lot. I specifically remember the RIVA128 dropped back to SW (in D3D which was explicitly not allowed) if you used alpha texture and vertex alpha at the same time, was an interesting debugging session to …
