Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

Hi Red, Actually, the problem with Win7 is not Java, but the fact that the people behind SWT messed up, see this . The current DBGL beta versions have a newer SWT library file which brings back support, so should work fine on Win7! Also, I've rewritten MobyGames querying in the latest beta build (by …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

While waiting for TheGamesDB to respond, I've rewritten the MobyGames queries, and refactored related code for Pouet as well. Please let me know if searching for (certain) MobyGames games or Pouet demos with DBGL beta10 still produces errors. Note that I've updated multiple .jar files in the lib …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

Maybe time to swap to TheGamesDb ? DBGL supported TheGamesDB for a while, until they changed their website and API. I'm now trying to request a new key for the API, but apparently my IP got blacklisted somehow. Using a VPN results in the same 'blacklisted' error message. Not sure what to do...? …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

Unfortunately, MobyGames has decided to make their API paid-only, see https://www.mobygames.com/forum/3/thread/270120/important-changes-to-mobypro-subscription-service/ . Upon receiving this notification, I've immediately requested free access since I do not make any money with DBGL and simply …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

Hi all, Here's another DBGL beta update : Added support for the eXoDOS Linux Patch. My thanks to Rob for providing a solution to use flatpaks with DBGL . If you'd want to try it out, use the following steps: In the eXo folder, make install_dependencies.command executable, and run it Choose '(P) …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

Weird, I cant get it to launch with the beta's now on MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1. I missed a couple but last one I had was 0.100 beta4 and it worked fine (it's been a couple weeks since I've gotten 'game time'). Just updated to beta 7, icon just bounces once and that's it. Put beta4 back, same behavior. …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

Hi all, another update; beta7 adds a profile editor field search feature. Also scrolling through the profiles list is now noticeably faster because the profile details (and thumbnails) are displayed only after idleing for 100ms. Filename Screenshot 2025-02-21 182322.png File size 117.84 KiB Views …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

.. VirtualMIDISynth + the Arachno Soundfont is my current favorite way of playing MIDI music. Here you can hear it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUjUGB50CB8 That sounds great, 'though I will probably just stick with my trusty Roland devices... :) 20250201_160750.jpg Great to hear you …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

One thing surprised me, though. It is that most games are already setup to use a Sound Canvas or General MIDI for music. How come? Sound Canvas emulation was not available when those game packages were created, was it? Correct; Considering most users will most likely be using Windows, I decided to …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

Thank you buckeye, yes, feeling better! About the template setting - correct, this association is not retained. A template is simply a collection of DOSBox settings, which I do not consider to be of importance to be retained. A template can be considered a starting point for a profile. Please note …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

Hi all, I'm feeling a bit under the weather, so I'll keep it short: The game in question is Mike Ditka Ultimate Football from 1991. In Dosbox Staging I get sounds, voices and mouse cursor but in DBGL with Staging used for dosbox version the voices sound muted and mouse use is not there. Do you know …

Re: DOSBox Game Launcher (DOSBox Frontend)

dbgl-user, to make a minimal portable JRE, you need to install JDK 17 or newer. I would recommend openJDK21 (apt install openjdk-21-jdk). You will also need jlink (apt install openjdk-21-jdk-headless). Then enter the DBGL folder and run: jlink --no-header-files --no-man-pages --compress=1 --strip- …
