Re: Windows ME

If anyone knows of a way to download all of the old updates from MS in 1 go for any Windows 9x, feel free to post about it here. I'd love to be able to do that, but I'm not getting my hopes up. If you mean that you want to download all the updates from the MS server directly, then I wouldn't know. …

Re: Windows ME

Yes I do. If you want a list, have a look here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/133014-last-versions-of-software-for-windows-2000/ Seems I do know of such programs after all :P Thank you! Was that so hard? If you'd posted that a page ago I would have had no problem. And about that question thing: …

Re: Windows ME

You could've just said so dude, no need for the ALL CAPS :P I thought I did! Several times! Do you have a specific, official quote of mine where I say it "seems" to work better with nLite? Even better, what was I referring to? Well, yes, you said "XP seems to be much more compatible with nLite then …

Re: Windows ME

What I typed never implied that I implied that! :P Sure, fine, whatever. :P You didn't. I asked you before if you knew programs that work in 2k but not in XP, and you ignored it. I simply asked my own question to you for the second time. Seems I'll need to do it for a 3rd time... Oh lordy. I …

Re: Windows ME

I have never read anything to suggest that the NTVDM of XP is less of a DOS emulation than the NTVDM of 2K. Neither have I. Why bring this up? You seemed to imply that XP was superior in that respect and did not use DOS emulation. Perhaps I misunderstood. and as I said, what programs do you know …

Re: Windows ME

I thought DOS compatibility in 2k was much worse then 9x (because it's basically a DOS GUI) and XP (because of it's compatibility option)? 2K has the same compatibility options as XP, though as I recall they're not enabled by default. (It's a trivial matter of registering a DLL.) Apparently you can …

Re: Windows ME

With enough tweaking 2k may have had good compatibility with older games (though I doubt compatibility was better then with 9x) but XP compatibility is simply better. On top of that many modern programs won't work with 2k but will work with XP. I was running 2k on a day-to-day basis until …

Re: Windows ME

2k may be more stable then ME, but I think XP is more stable then 2k, and actually seems a bit faster then 2k. Well, sure. http://home.comcast.net/~supportcd/XPMyths.html says as much. I'm actually a little unsure about that myself; I run XP on one of my older machines where I used to run 2K, and …

Re: Windows ME

And about 2k, I tend to agree. I don't see any real reason to use 2k over XP on newer systems and ME on slower ones. On slower systems ME is much faster then 2k and XP wouldn't be any slower..so why use 2k? Even if ME's stability isn't as bad as some people say it is, 2k is more stable than ME. …

Re: PopCap Games' "PAK" Files :)

in Milliways
Apparently until recently, it was fairly trivial to hack the PAK files for Plants vs Zombies and restore the original "Thriller Zombie" that was removed when the Michael Jackson estate got uppity. I don't think that hack works anymore, though.

Re: Installing Castles 2

You don't have to resort to Bochs or Qemu to get around disk swapping; you should be able to manage with Virtual Floppy Drive, if that's the problem. Are you actually installing from the original floppy disks, or what? If you're trying to use a version you downloaded from somewhere, it is advisable …

Re: "directory doesn't exist"

Lastly I think it`s safe for the DosBox folks to update the compatibility list to say that Quicken 7.0 for DOS is runnable, playable -and mostly supported. Sir? Did you completely miss the second line of my post? The only problem I see now is that the top borderline of the Windows window is …
