Re: Game cheating

For what it's worth I have used scanmem to cheat running crossfire in DOSBox (so many games by that name, I mean the one from 1981 from Online Systems that became Sierra Online.) Anyway, I haven't tried this personally, but there is a GUI front-end for scanmem called GameConqueror. http://code. …

Re: Pls Help

Well, as you know dosbox is geared for games. You could try running qemu with freedos (or MS-DOS if you have a copy.) Here is a nice tutorial http://how-to.wikia.com/wiki/How_to_install_FreeDOS_in_QEMU

Re: 286?

Try MESS, it emulates loads of systems, including the ibm pc/at (with 286 et al.) Details: http://mess.redump.net/mess:drivers:at:at Homepage: http://www.mess.org/ *nix ports: http://rbelmont.mameworld.info/?page_id=163

Re: DOSBOX stuck my windows please help

I don't have Windows, but why not try the Escape button or whatever exit mechanism the game used back in its original dos days. In the dos prompt after exiting the game, type exit and hit enter. DOSBox should close cleanly. Just using ctrl+f9 would be like hitting the power button on your dos …

Re: Installing Windows 95 on DOSBox

I'm not sure which c&c, but wine seems to run Dune 2000 and Transport Tycoon Deluxe well. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3778&iTestingId=41650 http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4932 I don't have these games, but you can test for yourself. …

Re: PhysFS patch

Okay, I think I see now. So it can handle reading from the archives, and maintain something separate for the writes, keeping the original data untouched... Similar to using unionfs + squashfs http://www.linux-mag.com/cache/7409/1.html I think something like this could be made transparent and multi- …

Re: PhysFS patch

I agree with wd. This should/could be a feature in a front-end. Under *nix, since running things with dosbox are automounted, it should be trivial even with something like a bash script. Take the parameter (the zip file), extract it to $temp (use mktemp or whatever, hard code a temporary folder) …

Re: slow game and music

Qbix: That is much simpler, and works like a charm :) I haven't typed `man dosbox` in ages... -exit, -machine are super useful, I was making .bat files and using a custom config for CGA games when I could have just used those simple parameters... TemptingTheLure: I'm wondering about the video driver …

Re: slow game and music

I see. You can try each setting and see which one works best for you. Surface is just using software render, so it is likely the slowest if you have hardware acceleration. Just play around (there are new ones in 0.73 for machine= for example, maybe the videomode is problematic with your game.) …

Re: DOSBox 0.73 Discussion

I really appreciate the ~/.dosbox/dosbox-0.73.conf When I was a linux newbie, I didn't like having a dosbox.conf in my clean home (of course later I learned I could use .dosboxrc instead.) I just like that it behaves like other apps and games, a really seamless experience.
