Where can I find the patches for "RIPPER?"

I used to play this game on my MAC years ago, but I never completed it. I bought it off Ebay for PC and could never install it. It only recently occurred to me that DOSBOX would run it. However, I cannot find the patches anywhere! Could someone help me find them? Or send them to me, perhaps? Thanks …

Re: DosBox performance i7 920 vs AMD 4000+

Really!? That's the best it can do? I get 20ish FPS on my single-core in the complete 'indoor' levels.. but as I got further along certain areas become sluggish. Though, really, if those processors can't maintain 20+ FPS throughout I would say its just going to have to wait for better emulators ( …

DosBox performance i7 920 vs AMD 4000+

My current computer is running a single-core AMD 4000+ San Diego core and it runs most games great. However, on a game that really pushes the limit, like Battlespire, I get significant FPS drops on the more open areas of the game. I'm awaiting the parts to build my new PC and it will have an i7 920. …

Re: Inconsistent Speeds drive me nuts.

Yes, if you lower the detail settings it'll speed up the game to abnormal speeds. It's like I was saying, if I play Morrowind and set my settings to the lowest possible, I'll get the smoothest possible gameplay, it won't go beyond a certain speed. I always leave my detail setting on max in Arena... …

Re: Inconsistent Speeds drive me nuts.

I'm pretty sure I don't have SpeedStep. My video card is a Geforce FX5900 Ultra 256. I never did play the game on a 486-DX2 33 or 66 so I can't say for sure. However, I would imagine that it did not have this issue because when I run the game on Windows XP (using a method that can be found at www. …

Re: Inconsistent Speeds drive me nuts.

Setting it to 1 affinity didn't really make a difference :( ..I still have the same issue. This issue seem like its a DOSBOX issue, not one of this game. Even with timesync, DOSBOX doesn't accomodate for changes in the environment that removes/increases the demand for CPU cycles. If CPU cycles would …

Re: Inconsistent Speeds drive me nuts.

Yeah, the version at http://cvscompile.aep-emu.de/ doesn't even having timesync ...nor does it come with a config file. And it still has the problem. I'm going to have to say that there's no way to play Arena using DOSBOX without having it either being sluggish in the more demanding areas (like town …

Re: Inconsistent Speeds drive me nuts.

3200 ghZ isn't powerful enough? The thing is I CAN get it to be smooth in the heart of a town but it will be TOO fast if I go to a less stressful area like inside a building or on the outer parts of a town like around the city walls. So I don't think it's the processor. Like I said, it's as if you …

Re: Inconsistent Speeds drive me nuts.

I'm using v1.07 (CD Version) but I doubt that makes much of a difference - I have the same problem in 1.06 I'm using CVS version of DOSBox. I wasn't aware that you could change CPU core using hotkeys. Whether I use dynamic or normal, however, I will still have either slow speeds in the heart of a …

Re: Inconsistent Speeds drive me nuts.

Timesync does make a difference but it doesn't eliminate the extreme polarities. Also, when I have timesync enabled it will often bring my CPU usage over 50% (which I believe on a HT CPU is equal to 100%). Timesync also doesn't really choose the appropriate CPU cycles because NPCs animations will be …

Inconsistent Speeds drive me nuts.

The biggest problem I've been having with DOSBox (I'm using it to run TES: Arena) is the inconsistency with speeds. If one plays a game of today (not talking about DOSBOX) on their computer and they raise the settings to high it may run smooth in smaller enclosed areas and slowdown in larger, more …
