You sound like a Mac user because EMS might have been false'd. try setting ems = true in dosbox.conf and enjoy your sub!!! shooting at the ship!!! and then that 3d title screen!!!!

When you play a midi file with any such programs and output to an opl2 or opl3, does it need a conversion-bank or something to translate midi-instruments to opl waveforms? I Hope someone is willing to explain.. There's usually an instrument bank to do that. Most cases are usually GENMIDI.IBK files …

if there's any other possible substitute for hungry DOS games, it's booting up x86 linux and running DosEmu, but that one is not compatible with everything and not really recommended for older games either. Jane's and Novalogic sims freak out on it heh, but it's nice to play quake at 450fps+

midi in Win3.11 works fine, at least it did so last time I checked. I don't remember having to do anything special to make it work. Probably an error of the computer configuration (midi volume in the host turned off, or so) or wrong midi device selected in the conf. I can't speak for Win3.11, but …

Starsiege Tribes, well there's nice performance in that via Glide versus OpenGL, of course that's a given since it was Glide native before it had OGL support in a patch. My Geforce2 GTS ran it half the speed the Voodoo2 did.
