Not only do you need the NIC driver you would also need some sort or tcp/ip stack since DOS 6 doesn't have one built in. I think the later versions of DR Dos and IBM PC Dos did have built in networking though, or of course WFW 3.11 would also work.

I was not aware that the SCC-1 used -5v. Its manual states that it uses only +5v and+12v. The SCC-1 is a Roland GS midi card, the LAPC-I, which does require -5v, is the Roland MT-32 based card. Did you try reversing the 4pin connector for the external battery? Without a motherboard manual, it's hard to know which pin goes where.

DosBox uses whetever midi device you have defined to Windows. I have my SCC-1 defined as my midi device so it uses my sound canvas. It also still uses my MT-32 that I have connected to the SCC-1

Yep, I did this for a while when the SB16 first came out since it wasn't 100% SB compatible and didn't work with all my games. So I left my original SB in my computer along with it. I set up batch files to change the blaster variable on the fly as well.
