I've got no textures with GLDirect, GT 430

in Windows
I want to use SciTech's GLDirect in order to wrap OpenGL software to iZ3D. It does give me 3D, but without any textures in any software I tried. OpenGL and DirectX both work fine with that wrapper disabled. GLDirect Version 5.0 (Jul 20 2004) iZ3D Version 1.12(4016) latest DirectX 9 Hardware: my …

Re: Serial modems

in PC Emulation
I once had this issue on an old PC. Modems did not reply, but null modem connection to another PC worked fine. It then started to work when I removed my Gravis Ultra Sound ACE for some reason I never found. The GUS still works fine in another PC. Maybe you should try removing any hardware you don't …

Re: Gaming Value of a GUS

in PC Emulation
Exactly, it is a pitty that only few games not only support the GUS somehow but really make use of its advantages. Epic is probably the best example in GUS support. Jazz Jack Rabbit and Epic Pinball do a good job on the GUS. The Wolfenstein 3D patch, which came with my GUS is also an significant …

Re: Sound cards - from best to worst

Okay, I will make torrents of them available. Might take a few days before I find the time, though. In the meantime, I have something slightly related. Maybe you know the original demo recording of the Zak McKracken Theme: http://www.lamaweb.com/zak/ Here is a remastered version I did: http://www. …

Re: Sound cards - from best to worst

As you apparently are interested in other soundtracks, I actually did some more: Sam & Max Hit the Road : Is a Sound Canvas recording of the Complete soundtrack General MIDI file from here: http://s-island.mixnmojo.com/samandmax.php I remastered the CD-Audio tracks and replaced their MIDI …

Re: Which gfx card to choose?

in PC Emulation
I have a Winner 2000 AVI which uses a S3 Vision 968, which is a PCI card. Other than the border color is always black, I didn't encounter any incompatibilities with DOS games. It has working, but not too efficient VESA BIOS. In some games, the SciTech Display Doctor (which they released the DOS …

Re: Sound cards - from best to worst

In my experience, external devices like the SC-155 have a significantly lower noise level than any card for the Waveblaster connector. It also has the advantage that it can be used with any modern system as long as you have a MIDI interface, which can be added as an USB device nowadays. Thus, I …

Re: Sound cards - from best to worst

It's quite a while since I wrote in this thread, but I just hooked up my DOS machine in order to record some things. The Terratec Maestro 32 is still in there, but I removed the wavetable board since some games are messing with the mixer, thus getting mixed music from the wavetable board and …

Re: Sound cards - from best to worst

The best sound card is a sound blaster 16. This is suppodes to be a joke, isn't it? It is not SB Pro compatible, which is certainly the most important thing for a DOS soundcard. MPU401 is not reliable (I did not try, but heard about that many times). You still need a wavetable. Has only 12 bit DAC. …

Silent Loon wrote: I got a DFI K6XV3+ Rev. A running with it, but still it doesn't like warm booting. As I see you use the the K6BV3+ wich should be the same, exept that it is an AT-Board instead of ATX. Any problems? Works fine for me.

Re: Sound cards - from best to worst

so in reality, if you could make the Terratec Maestro 32 (first version) soundblaster 16 compatible, and use a daughterboard. You could in some ways have the best SB16 clone on your hands with SB pro compatibility too ? In reality, it is not realistic to just make it SB16 compatible, I guess. The …

Re: Sound cards - from best to worst

Speaking of the most compatible card for DOS, I still use my Terratec Maestro 32 (first version). It's compatible to Soundblaster Pro (including stereo samples). It has an OPL3. It's Windows Sound System compatible. It has quite good oversampling for any sample rate, ie. no annoying mirror or alias …

Re: Installing old/legacy soundcards in Win98

in PC Emulation
Granted, both autoexec.bat and config.sys are empty.... But what should I put there if this is not a Soundblaster card ? Usually you don't need anything there to use a soundcard with Windows. Most ISA cards are Soundblaster compatible. You can try just installing the Soundblaster driver which comes …
