Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Hi Zeckensack!! Thank you very much for offering your help!!  I think it's a good idea to help each other, I think I will contact you. Yes, I handle grHint(GR_HINT_STW_DIFF_TMU0), I don't think there is a bug there. D3D can accept 1,2,3 and 4D texture coordinates, but in practice it …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

I think I shouldn't release the "new" version, it would have no point if it still had problems with w-buffer on ATIs. I've put a test version to http://dege.fw.hu/dgvoodoo_test.zip instead. This writes a log file about depth buffer operations. I don't know if this version fixes all your problems, …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

CraigG, thanks the info!! I hoped this will help. I've fixed the perspective problem, but I'm afraid that's not all of your problem. Probably it would behave as 1.20. I mentioned I was going to fix the palette problem in SW before releasing the fixed version. Well, it's much harder than I thought. …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Ok. I'm going to fix that palette-thing in SW then re-release 1.21. According to the docs, texture perspective has to be enabled when w-buffering is used (missing polygons are due to lack of it). This is a really big bug. However I still don't know why w-buffering doesn't work on ATI.

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Yes, another bug I've found: other people also talked to me about swimming textures. I've realized that I always keep texture perspective disabled in 1.21. Probably I did it for debugging purposes or whatever and forgot to recover. It's interesting that this problem doesn't come out on nVidia cards …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Well, the bug is in dgVoodoo. Once I downloaded and tried SW with this wrapper, and it worked when I used the built-in VESA support. Now I've downloaded and tried it again, and it worked in no way. When glide is active the wrapper keep a fake VESA driver installed to prevent DOS programs from …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

DoomGazer: dgVoodoo never writes out textures to the HD. It's the game itself that converts textures to a glide-compatible format in a way it writes them out as .3DF files and read them in by the wrapper. Have you tried to make SW convert textures in memory? You can do that setting BUILD_ …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

About the point of view problem: even the glide version of TR1 tries to set mode 640x480 via VESA at startup. If it fails, TR thinks it will fail for glide too, for some reason. Anyhow, it's a messy thing: coordinate transformations go to 320x200 while clipping is applied to the 640x480 extent. If I …

Re: dgVoodoo isn't working for me

in DOS
1.20 has a wrong communication for wrapping under XP (I wrote it in the other thread). While scene is being drawn by Direct3D, DOS interrupts can't get to be called and it isn't a healthy thing. Timer interrupt is the hearthbeat for most games (to synchronize themself to it). If it isn't called …

Re: dgVoodoo isn't working for me

in DOS
Hi! Do you have any other file named glide2x.ovl in your TR's directory than dgVoodoo's glide2x.ovl when you try to run TR with dgVoodoo? If so, delete it from there or overwrite with dgVoodoo's glide2x.ovl. What happens exactly when you try it to run under Win9x?

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Hmm... thanks! It looks like as if scene was drawn without w-buffer. Do you experience this problem in other games too? Maybe I should release a version which is able to write a log file. It could be more easy to figure out what is going on. (With w-buff emu, some polygons can be distorted because …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Stiletto is right, I monitor VOGONS rarely. However I'm here now, maybe I could help you. Teleguy: I've experienced your problem. The truth is, I've realized that DOS wrapping for XP is bad in 1.20. (Just try it out with Blood, you get an unplayable game. Maybe hanging TR is due to this problem, I …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Stiletto: Thanks for the infos and ink, altough I know about TRX and the new version of Zeckensack's glide wrapper. I think TRX is a great thing, would be nice to support it! :happyhappy:  Targaff: fw.hu is very slow nowadays, I don't know why. I was hardly able to upload the wrapper. I don't …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Well... I had more free time than I thought before. So, a new version of dgVoodoo is out (v1.20). It supports DOS programs under XP (without VESA emu and mouse support). It has also been improved to give better results with Red Baron 3D (thanks the RB3D community for testing betas!)

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

Temporarily I've been back for the weekend. Oh, my God, what a fray was going on while I wasn't at home! :smug: :smug: I can't react to them now. Sorry for corrupt v1.15, I don't know what the problem was. Yesterday I discovered a fatal error in v1.15 (this prevents Extreme assault from working), …

Re: dgVoodoo 1 announcement thread

dgVoodoo is downloadable from http://dege.fw.hu now. I will update it with a new version soon, and after it, its developing is going to be suspended for about six months. (New version will only show the actual state of developing, so nothing relevant news.)
