Can anybody confirm that Aztech PCI 168 has better compatibility with newer chipsets than ESS Solo? In my experience Aureal are not that good, Yamaha chips need Sb-Link, FM801 are decently compatible but ESS Solo are the best. CMI 8338/8738 are hit and miss.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I have some additional info. Junior XT was a Romanian, NOT Soviet clone of PC XT; indeed, back then in the late 1980s Romania was a communist country.

Good luck finding 4 MB 30 pin RAM SIMMs. Nowadays they are rare as hen's teeth. Been searching for years for 6 pieces (4 for one of my 486 mobos which now has 8x1 MB, 2 for my SB32 which is the same model as yours, CT3600).

Have one of those motherboards. I like the onboard sound, Yamaha 70x, no need for drivers in DOS mode. I dislike the BIOS, did not detect any HDD over 8 Gb, very fussy with 2-8 Gb ones. Will try to flash the latest BIOS.

My 2 (euro)cents... I would ditch the ISA Creatives. There are clones which sound much better. I have always been an ESS fan, upto PCI Maestro. The ISA ones and PCI Solo are unbeatable when it comes to compatibility and OPL-like sound. They even have ESFM, which, IMHO, sounds better than OPL3 FM. …

As far as I know, Adaptec 1542 B/C/CF are some of the best ISA SCSI controllers. Anything with better performance will not be ISA.

I had several 1542 models; somewhere around here I think I still have a non-functional A; then I had a B and 2 CF, right now one remaining CF which is used in my VLB/SCSI 486.
