I accidentally just killed a network card. I was installing a soundcard and somehow, i guess, caused the network card to squirt out of the slot to some degree. Booted and saw smoke. Create a category in steam called "Garbage" and put the shitty games there. Hide them away, that's what I do.

I hear a bunch of extra off-key notes and some hanging, my first suspicion would be the HardMPU but others might have a better idea for you. I don't have experience with the MPU.

I bought an X800 XTPE the day it was released originally, got a free Tshirt with it too. This is the only video card I've ever had die on me, so be careful. The Tshirt is good though I still wear it often.

I didn't say loadfix had to do with speed I said try loadfix first. Then if that doesnt work it might have something to do with the speed. Those are always my first steps when trying to make something run that doesn't want to. It doesn't hurt to try loadfix in any error situation, it takes no time. …

I ran it successfully without loadfix. I should also mention I am running QEMM and not EMM386 on my P90. Otherwise my p90 is certainly faster than your 486, but I don't know what could else it could be. You are running loadfix at the prompt before the executable like "loadfix caveman.exe" right?

I had steam in an offline mode on a machine (I think I might have been connected to the internet but had been running steam in offline mode) and after some time it gave a vague error and would not launch the game. Unfortuanately not true, even in offline mode the games will eventually refuse to run unless you reconnect. I have had this happen to me first hand.

Try loadfix first. Otherwise a game designed for a 286 might be running too fast on your 486, you could try a slowdown utility. EDIT : It works fine on my P90, do you meet the requirements?
