Following this thread. I have two 12MB STB Voodoo 2's and one of them seems to have failed in a similar fashion - detected in device manager but gives the same GlideInitEnvironment error when trying to launch a game. So far I've been unable to troubleshoot it.

I got mine from utsource.net - you can also try alibaba or aliexpress In my 486 it made little difference upgrading from 256kb to 1mb, beyond the number on the POST screen. Maybe if I was running 64mb of RAM or something equally ridiculous for a 486, but those big SIMMs are probably harder to find …

No practical reason to use them both. Unless you're SB Pro low-pass filter connoisseur or desperately need stereo sound in one of the few games which do not have SB16 support. I haven’t noticed any performance issues however I did upgrade my rig last year which probably helps. I’m playing on Very High settings with an I5 8400 and a GTX960 and seems to run pretty well.

I've started replaying Kingdom Come: Deliverance. A new patch and DLC dropped recently so I decided to start another playthrough. I really rate this game, reminds me a little bit of morrowind minus the fantasy and magic. Probably my favourite game to come out of the last few years after Prey.

I've had a few tantalum caps explode, and they certainly make big racket, but those scorch marks are something else. Looks like it was actually on fire? Have you replaced the cap and does the card still work?

Try it and see. 2.8V should be OK if your voltage is fairly stable. It won’t hurt but might crash if it doesn’t get enough juice.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but here in Australia computers were damn expensive, and people would run them for 5 years or more before upgrading. Seeing a Pentium class machine in regular use in 99/2000 was not unusual at all.

Of your new cards, I'd sell all of them except possibly the YMF-724 as that supports wavetable synthesis. It's a subset of the Yamaha XG synth used in the DB50XG or MU50 but its still pretty good.
