I have an original, working driver CD for the 192XG, which also includes (as I recall) the Yamaha XG soft-synth... It's around 270 megs of data. I can upload it somewhere if you'd like.

I was pulling apart a bunch of old Compaq Presario boxes I bought years ago at an auction and discovered they all had Gravis Ultrasound Plug'n Play soundcards. Any idea what these suckers are worth? Would anyone be interested in swapping one for an MT-32/CM32L/CM64/etc. etc.?

I pulled the extra 4gb out of the laptop that was installed last week. Mandriva no longer locked up randomly. I haven't had time to run a full memtest86 pass, but I'm hopeful that it was a bad stick of RAM, which makes perfect sense.

Wubi is pretty awesome if you're a Windows-only sort of guy. It creates a virtual disk on your hard drive and adds Ubuntu to the Windows XP/Vista/Win7 menu. It's not virtualization, it actually lets you boot natively into Ubuntu. http://wubi-installer.org/

I switched back to XFCE from Gnome anyway. XFCE mixer doesn't care if you're using pulseaudio or alsa.

I've never had anything but problems with pulseaudio. What pisses me off is that Gnome/etc. dumped their support for alsa mixers as far as I can tell. Once you uninstall pulseaudio you lose all your mixer functionality. Just annoys me!!!

libmt32emu is version 0.1.3 mt32emu-alsadrv is CVS from 3/25/2010 You'll still need to backup your MT-32 ROM to disk to use with the emulator. Board wouldn't let me attach DEB files, so I tar/gzip'd them. Unzip, install libmt32emu and mt32emu, and run "mt32d" or "xmt32" to launch the midi daemon. …

I'm still not having any problems so far. Fresh 9.10 install, performed a security upgrade (including kernel), installed dosbox, downloaded dosbox source, installed prereqs/devtools, compiled, and everything runs with no segmentation faults. Also installed Nvidia graphics driver with hardware …

I'm going to try to get to the bottom of this today. I spent all last night working on the problem. It seems to be tied to the installation of a package that's either required for build or is part of the security updates.
