Re: Dead AWE32?

in DOS
Thanks very much for the jumpers info. I've just tried the AWE32 in another computer, and I get exactly the same symptoms - no POST at all - the PC will not boot-up. I suspect there may be something really wrong with the card. I've tried cleaning the ISA pin contacts that run along the ISA slot, but …

Re: Dead AWE32?

in DOS
PS, I'm sorry I forgot something: Also, there is another cluster of 5 jumpers next to the ones I already mentioned. These read: IDE IRQ 10 11 12 14 15 Currently, all 5 jumpers are Open.

Re: Dead AWE32?

in DOS
To Amigaz: I currently have Parallel port disabled in BIOS. I might try enabling it just to see if it makes a difference. To StickByDos: On my CT3900 model, there are 2 IDE interfaces. There is also a cluster of 3 jumpers near them that reads: IOCHRDY IDE100 IDE101 I don't know how to set these …

Dead AWE32?

in DOS
Hello. I've just bought an AWE32 (CT3900, non-PnP). I'm so disappointed with it because I think it's dead. After I insert the card in to the ISA slot, when I turn on my PC, I get no BIOS POST message. If I remove the card, everything is OK with my machine. I have tried to re-insert the card in to …

Re: Gaming Value of a GUS

Please may I raise a question here regarding the GUS? The GUS Classic came in a variety of revisions. I think it ended with revision 3.4 or 3.74 or something. Question: What revisions did the GUS PnP come in? Did they only release 1.0, or did they revise it after this initial release? Thank you. …

Thanks. I used the silly fiddly LCD buttons and selected a display option called "auto", and magically the screen centred itself! Thanks a lot, best regards from Robert.

Re: Win95/98 PCI sound card recommendation

Drat, I should have added the following - I'm very interested in add-ons such as daughter boards. Perhaps any recommendations for those two sound cards that I wish to acquire could have DB connectors on them, although this isn't essential I suppose. Thank you.

Win95/98 PCI sound card recommendation

Hello, I am building three legacy Win9x boxes. One will have a SB Live! card, but I would really appreciate some thoughts on getting two other PCI sound cards specifically for Win9x usage. I was thinking maybe - 1) a card with the Aureal vortex 2 chipset. 2) perhaps an ensoniq audiopci card. …

Roland SCC-1 and MT-32 ... noob advice request please.

in DOS
I have bought both a scc-1 and an mt-32. The scc-1 is in my PC, and it works fine. The mt-32 just arrived today, but I have no leads for it. Can someone please tell me - what leads do I need in order to connect the scc-1 to the mt-32? And also how do I hear the sound?! Thank you very much, best …

"Skewed display" in DOS games

in DOS
If I run an old game (say Duke Nukem 3D in DOS, at 800x600 Vesa mode), the display is skewed to the right -- so I have a blank/black 1 inch column on the left side of the screen, and I lose 1 inch of the "action" on the right side of the screen. I've tested 2 Matrox cards on 2 LCD displays, and I …
