Re: Sound Blaster LIVE! Versions

in Marvin \ Sound
Greetings to everyone. I own the CT4620 with the CT4660 board which a friend of mine had donated it to me four years ago and it's installed on my DOS / Windows 9x 3Dfx build. Recently I bought the CT4760 with Live Drive II the CT4860 and the Digital DIN header bracket. This one is the 5.1, or 4.1 …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

I was using DOSbox since 2004 until 2010 when I had abandon the vintage gaming experience. I was messing at some point, on 2014, 2015 with SVN Daum relesases, but many compatibility issues with DOS applications such as Professional Write, Lotus 1-2-3 and DBase. They worked only with regular DOSBox …

Re: DOSBox vs PCem vs 86Box which do you prefer?

Hi all, speaking about DOSBox and PCem. I recently set up PCem V17 with this configuration in order to install DOS 6.22 and play some games: -Machine: [486] Award SiS 496/497 -CPU: i486DX2/66 (not sure if I should check Dynamic Recompiler or not) -Memory: 16 MB -Video Device: VGA -Video Speed: …

PCem is just superior. I've abandoned DOSbox the last couple of years. I have a 386, 486, Am5x86, PII builds with DOS 6.22, PC DOS 2000, DOS 7.1, Windows 95b and Windows 98SE and I don't need anything else and I have the feeling of my childhood. DOSbox is being used only for Gravis Ultrasound and …

Jorpho wrote on 2020-12-22, 20:26: I'm pretty sure PCem would not run at an acceptable speed on my ancient PC. Windows 3.x / 95 with applications and games until 1996 will run perfect on older machines. Emulating a Pentium 90 or 100. But I believe Am5x86 is a better option for this period.

DOSBox was my favorite since 2008 until 2017. On 2017 I've decided to recreate my vintage builds and so far I have multiple builds from 386 to Athlon 64 X2 and a good collection of PGA132, socket 3 (VLB, PCI and ISA), socket 7, ss7, Slot A, Socket 370, Slot 1 and socket 939 motherboards. Some VGA, …

Re: Installing DOS drivers on an Audigy2 ZS

in Marvin \ Sound
Back on 2003 I had Windows 2000 and 98SE installed on my Athlon XP, I've abandoned "forever" Windows 98 and DOS, because when I've replaced the GA-7DXr+ with GA-7N400 PRO2 the Audigy didn't have sound on DOS games and I thought newer motherboards will never have again. So I moved to XP for first …

Re: Installing DOS drivers on an Audigy2 ZS

in Marvin \ Sound
I'm glad that you can justify it. I didn't knew until recently that the 939 platform is somehow Windows 9x / DOS compatible due to VIA chipset. On my K7 (Asus K7M) build with SB Live!, I think that on pure DOS the sound is more clear and with better bass, but is my personal opinion comparing the two …

Tested on my socket 939 new build, which I replaced the Athlon XP build (A8V deluxe, 4400+ x2, 9600 PRO, Audigy 2ZS), works great, but the games are working better under Windows 98 and not in pure DOS. Doom Ultimate, Duke3D, Warcraft, working great with Sound Canvas, but I believe Live! has better …
