Re: Sound blaster Live Dos Sound Emulation

in DOS
I now prefer to stick to slot 1 440BX chipset boards for my retro builds. I use these and they work pretty well. ASUS P3B-F in my Win98 machine and an INTEL SE440BX-2 in my Win95/DOS rig. The 440BX chipset along with a Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold (CT4540) ISA sound card plays quite well with DOS games …

Re: Two optical drives - Load driver for only one?

in DOS
Any luck? I was getting ready to try xcdrom.sys as a way of freeing up a bit more conventional memory, and found this thread while searching. Guess I can save my time on trying this one out. Kind of hoping that maybe you had come across something that works?

Re: 10th Anniversary

Duh, obviously I posted. LOL Don't sweat it, you'll get used to me- I never have claimed to be the brightest bulb in the house but I do manage to have fun on most days. And isn't that what it is all about? I try very hard to stay happy and never grumpy with varying degrees of success daily. Happy …

Re: 10th Anniversary

Just where did the name "Vogons" come from anyway? My best guess... The Vogons are a fictional alien race from the planet Vogsphere in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy— Vogons are described as “one of the most unpleasant races in the galaxy—not actually evil, but bad-tempered, bureaucratic, …

Back in February of 2004, MS released a CDROM with all of the updates for Win98 -> WinXP thru October 2003. I ordered a copy of it back then and saved it. ... If anybody uses it, I'd be curious to hear of your experiences with it. Burned to a cd and installed on my Windows 98se machine- worked just …

Re: 486DX2 VLB Rig

JoeCorrado, as far as I remember, it worked in my other rig, P233MMX, under windows 98 out of the box with no drivers. I played TES: Redguard on it and tried it with Tomb Raider. In Redguard it was an improvement over keyboard, but Tomb Raider just felt wrong with it. I don't know much when it …

Back in February of 2004, MS released a CDROM with all of the updates for Win98 -> WinXP thru October 2003. I ordered a copy of it back then and saved it. Sadly, it has never been much use to me because it automatically installs DX9 and IE6 along with its stupid bug with deleting files in Windows …

Re: 486DX2 VLB Rig

I know that this is kind of an old thread, but I am looking to nab a Logitech Thunderpad (just like the one pictured here in this thread) and need to know for sure that it will work well in DOS and Windows 95. I saw that you had one for this rig and figured that you would know for sure. Nice trick …
