There actually already are some LED projectors, but they're only small palmtop-type devices with really low resolutions. I expect it will be awhile before there are any that will project a large screen at a decent resolution, but I'm sure someone will eventually come out with one, even if it doesn't …

The two main limitations I've seen with projectors are the relatively low resolutions in all but the highest-end ones, and the bulbs. The resolution wouldn't be that big a deal with an older system... 1024x768 seems to be about the norm for midrange projectors, and that's just fine for use with a …

I think it would be fun to see if it can be OC'd to 300. I don't see that happening. Those chips, aside from being crappy performers, were known for heat issues and lack of scalability of the clock speed. Also remember, PR233 != 233mhz... IIRC, it actually ran at 180-190mhz, somewhere in there.

I'd still probably go for the 3Com 905 you found for $2, but as for the Adaptec drivers,, Windows 98 does include drivers for a lot of NICs that were out at the time, so there's a decent chance it'll work out of the box. I've never used an Adaptec NIC, but they've never done me wrong with their SCSI cards, so as long as drivers can be found for the OS you want, it should be alright. I didn't see the $2 3Com ones, though... that'd probably be the better deal since I know those will work without problems on Win95/98. …

Just be very careful about the stuff on eBay, if you can't see for sure that it's standard low-density RAM, don't touch it... a lot of the sellers are not entirely honest about that detail.

I use 3Com 905 NICs in pretty much everything, and they seem to have equally good compatibility. No complaints about performance, either. I'd recommend them just as highly as the Intel PRO/100.

Been there, done that, no problems, with a GX260 none the less!!!!! I'm interested to hear how you pulled that off. I have a GX260, and it absolutely would not boot with a Prescott chip... I tried a couple different CPUs and BIOS versions to be sure, too.

Yeah, it should do OK for a small OS like that, where there's not as many little files to load on boot. It'll at least be better than the old PIO-mode drives that were used back in the 3.11/95 era.
