Any plans on trying out any of the Cedar Mill chips? Those have been mostly forgotten since they were pretty quickly overshadowed by the Core2, but they were kinda the 'last hurrah' for the single-core P4...

Yeah, those Via USB chips are a pain in the ass... just save yourself the headaches and get a card with an NEC chip. There are plenty of 'em available on eBay for cheap.

I know you can hotswap the modules under 2000/XP... I've never tried it in 98, but it should work. The GPU in the C640 is a Mobility Radeon 7500. I think it was 32MB, but I can't remember for sure. The C840 has a 64MB Geforce4 Go 440.

I think I will try to fix the board. The other flaw is a bit hard to spot in this low res picture but im sure someone will You mean the bulged cap up near the top corner of the CPU socket? Those look like Chemicon KZG, too, meaning that they'll all need to be replaced. 🙁

Nvidia never made any ISA cards, or VLB for that matter. The old Matrox cards turn up once in awhile, but they're quite rare. Matrox didn't really break into the consumer market until the PCI Millennium and Mystique line... before that they just did high-end, low-volume stuff.

I would assume it's a 2MB version, judging by the "2M" printed on the ROM chip... seems reasonable anyway, though I haven't actually plugged it in and checked it out yet.

I have one of those, but mine's not quite so pretty since it's a bit yellowed and is missing the logo plate and the template holder thingy. It's definitely a beast of a keyboard. The macro function is especially cool, or at least it would be.... I have yet to figure out how the hell it works. 🤣
