Re: Lands of Lore 2 - Unable to write a configuration file error on setup

in DOS
(If this is a problem with actual dos, as opposed to dosbox, then please ignore this post.) No problems for me installing, but I did need to use the -label with the mount to get the game to recognize the cds when playing. I was going to suggest making sure that you had mounted a c drive, and making …

Re: Looping sounds (Kings Quest VI)

Assuming that the version that you have includes the DOS version, I would suggest trying that. There is the possibility that it could be a Windows 3.1 problem. Other than that the only thing I can think of is to check for patches, http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/Patches-Updates-Games/ …

Re: Shattered Steel Help!

Did you install it in dosbox? Because the "Can't open F:\Games\ssteel\graphics\font.pcx for reading." suggests it was installed under Windows instead, and the config is looking for the Windows install locations, as opposed to what it appears as in dosbox. And it would probably be best to use "mount …

Re: No sound in DosBOX under Ubuntu

I don't know if this is the case, but I was wondering if you might have a 32bit version of dosbox, and possibly it is looking for the 32bit version of alsa, or sdl, or one of their sub-packages? If you got dosbox by apt-get, I should think that it should have taken care of the dependencies. Also it …

Re: Dosbox - no available audio device

ALSA=Advanced Linux Sound Architecture So my suspicion is that might not work out so well in windows. From looking on the internet since I don't run Windows, it looks like dsound, waveout, and (possibly) windib might be options to try for SDL_AUDIODRIVER.

Re: Dosbox on Fedora 12 - fullscreen problem

If (as seems likely) you're using a .conf file to change things, I'd suggest trying to run dosbox without it, just in case some change is causing problems. There are probably other things others can suggest, but I've never needed as I haven't had too much problem with switching to a fullscreen, so I …

Re: Error message from DOSbox crash.

Usually that error means that an app is asking X to do something that is causing problems. As to which is the problem, is hard to tell. But I ran across someone who had the same problem http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1223755.html on Ubuntu who solved the problem by getting a newer …

Re: I can't get warcraft II to run off a cd

Sorry, I believe I misspoke. When I said "runs off the cd", what I meant to say was "starts from the cd". The game will still need the cd mounted in exactly the same way it was when you installed it (or cue/bin, if you're doing that) but you'll need to start the game from the hard drive install.

Re: I can't get warcraft II to run off a cd

(I'm assuming that c is the mount for the hard drive install, and d is the mount from the cd, if not, it might not hurt to change it that way. Some games were a bit finicky about details like that.) If I remember correctly, I always ran the game by going to the install on the hard drive and running …

Re: Gabriel Knight 2 WIKI Entry

I'm not sure if this is what you might be interested in, but there is a place set up to handle scripts for running/installing apps for Linux. http://www.playonlinux.com/en This specific site requires that Playonlinux be installed, and tends to focus on running windows apps under wine, but there are …

Re: Gabriel Knight 2 WIKI Entry

I'm not sure if Linux is setup to handle InnoSetup files natively. (At least yet.) If those files do use nsis in some way, I'm not sure how well they can be extracted. I tried 7z (version 4.58 ) but it said that it was an unsupported archive. I tried an uninstaller called peazip which is supposedly …

Re: config seems broken

From that output, personally I saw two links. One for the dosbox project, and the other for bug reporting. (Though perhaps it was tweaked or created by the forum engine after posting, or is browser-specific?) The section "Submitting Bug Reports - openSUSE" shows up on my browser as a link to http:// …

Re: config seems broken

Perhaps you might say where they suggested coming here? It could be seful in opening lines of communication. Because in looking at the OpenSuse forums, I found http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/414187-dosbox-not-correctly-installed-rpm.html In which they suggest either filing a bug report to …

Re: config seems broken

Config writes a file to whatever directory you started dosbox from. So if you exit dosbox, you should find the files aaa and lll there. (Though it would be a good idea to use dosbox.conf as the config file name. Anything other than that or the file .dosboxrc in your home directory only and while …

Re: NWN2 Mysteries of Westgate with activation

in Milliways
What happens when someone wants to install a game on a computer that isn't connected to the internet? Install a game that has had the serial key copied by a store employee who resealed the game afterwards? That their hard drive fails and needs to be replaced, preventing them from uninstalling one of …
