VGA cards (and monitors) were very expensive in 1988. Games didn't support VGA because only a few people had the equipment to run it, and it was much more expensive to develop a VGA game instead of a EGA+CGA+Tandy game. You're right. Gauntlet programers won't know their game won't work with VGA …
