I need a bigger hard drive for my X4 box. I wanted an internal one, but I see that external drives seem to be cheaper - eg 1tb external seagate is £70 but an internal seagate barracuda SATA 1tb is £90 and [same outlet] an OEM pata internal 1tb is £100. Wondered if anyone knew if some of these …

Your board looks exactly like the syl8884 motherboard I have. I'm pretty sure mine supports (or atleast the online manuals I find say so) both 3.3v and 5v chips. Either your motherboard is realy missing some part so it realy doesn't support 5v chips... or 5v was perhaps purposefully disabled for …

I got a related question. I have a couple cpu's I removed the HSF from, but theres a large thick piece of glue left on them which is impossible to remove with alcohol. Anyone have any idea on how I can get the thick layer of (white/yellowish) glue from the cpu without damaging it too much?

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I was thinking of putting an AT board in an ATX case but I don't have any of the back plating needed (the aluminium strip with just a single hole for the keyboard). Since I have plenty AT cases that's not an issue right now anyway.

I've been using 2.88 meg floppies to transfer data across. Ofcourse it's only double that of normal floppy drives and it's not easy getting enough parts for just an extra 1.5 meg transfer space. If I ever needed to transfer more I think I'd either use a zip drive (which I got enough spare parts for) …
