Re: Breakthrough with MechWarrior 2 Mercs!

Unmounting temporarily? Not sure what you mean??? The way I see it: Mercs.exe loads mw2shell.exe (Menu system) loads mw2.exe (The actual game) Yup, using latest Daum Cafe, the one before that, and the 9-4 build, also tried the 8-16-2005 build from AEP forums. All of 'em worked. It's gotta be your …

Re: Help me put togeter a 386dx system for DOS gaming

I don't know of a site that differentiates between different versions of VESA. Here's all of the VESA games identified by MobyGames: http://www.mobygames.com/attribute/sheet/attributeId,11/p,2/ I suppose you could find out when VESA 2.0 was ratified and then "ASS-U-ME" that most games after that …

Weird, there's no NTVDM.EXE in your dllcache directory. (This would replace the NTVDM.EXE in your SYSTEM32 directory if it was corrupted). Also the NTVDM.EXE in your SYSTEM32 directory has been renamed to NTVDM.EXG. Your NTVDM is also not the same size as mine. Are you using XP with no Service Packs …

Re: Breakthrough with MechWarrior 2 Mercs!

I've been using v1.0, didn't bother with the patches before. I applied 1.05 last night and the mission loaded right up and the instructor voice activated. (I also checked the filesizes and they matched yours once I apllied the patch..just in case the patch wasn't being applied). Also patched to 1.06 …

Re: Breakthrough with MechWarrior 2 Mercs!

Odd that your MW2.exe is so small. Only way I can see it can be that small is if it was UPX compressed. I just compressed my MW2.EXE with upx --best and reduced it to: 347,494 bytes. I was going to suggest mabye the 4GW stub wasn't included but the stub isn't that big....sooo: 1. We are using …

Re: Breakthrough with MechWarrior 2 Mercs!

Hmmm, I do remember performing a Minimal install. Also IIRC, I used SB16. Tho I doubt the game needs sound support to start....although it does check the audio tracks when starting the mission. I would test it right now but my Mercs image is on my external HD which is connected via USB1 to a 400mhz …

Re: Amerzone (and others) on Windows XP

Yep! That's the error message you should receive if NTVDM is "missing". See it differes from a normal error message when you run a program that is not in your path: Normal 'hello' is not recognized as an operable program or batch file. Missing NTVDM the system cannot find the file c:\windows\ …

Re: Amerzone (and others) on Windows XP

Depends, NTVDM is a protected file but I'm not sure if SFC just yanks the files out of dllcache or if it requires you to insert the CD and it checks that too (I seem to remember it doing that....). Considering that XP automagically replaces files that have changed using dllcache...it probably does …

Go to any Walmart, BestBuy, CompUSA, etc....or search around on ebay. Check UnderDogs too...they probably have links to places where you can buy it. I got my copies from the good ol' Quake Shareware CD. Man, I love that thing! Too bad ID learned from their mistakes and never released anything else …

Re: doom on XP

Doom isn't free, although the source code is. (Well...kinda). It doesn't matter how long a game has been out if the company still owns the IP. Heck, the original Zork isn't free and that's been out forever! You can use the DoomsDay Engine: http://www.doomsdayhq.com/ or any other port for better …

Re: Das Amt (Need Help!)

heh. the -label "labelname" is the actual label used by the CD that you are mounting. So with the CD in the drive, open up a command prompt in windows, change to the CD drive, type "VOL" and it'll show the label. Then that's the label that you use in DosBox.

Re: Amerzone (and others) on Windows XP

This can happen if NTVDM is broken. When NTVDM is "missing", whenever you run a 16bit program Windows will complain that it cannot "find" it. I don't have a list of all of the NTVDM files with me at the moment but to confirm that this is the issue. Try running a DOS game in Windows XP and …

Re: Windows Vista editions 'by the bucket load'

IIRC, there are just as many XP versions. Users won't really care.....they'll just use whatever comes with their computers. The only time they'll get confused is when they say....go to a computer ordering website and they go to the OS box and notice a couple of versions there. Assuming that DRM/ …
