Re: Re-Loaded 95 : no win32 exe file?

in Windows
NT based systems can run 16-bit applications fine; I've never seen one that wouldn't work anyway. I still play all of my old Windows 3.1 games in XP, and also I'm still using the 16-bit Windows version of Wordperfect on it. Sounds to me like your new exe file is corrupt; this often happens when a …

Re: Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit

in Windows
Here is the location in the registry: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Electronic Arts\Need for Speed III In the right pane look for Thrash Driver, the second entry from the bottom. Double click on it and a box will pop up. Enter voodoo2 in the field that says Value Data.

Re: "Miles" Sound Updates

in DOS
I have Windows XP with a SoundBlaster Live! card. I use a DOS startup disk with the SB16 emulation driver for some of my older games that prefer to run in real mode. This may just come in very handy for some of them, thanks for sharing. 😀

Re: A LOT of WindowsXP fixes...

in Windows
Very nice, thanks. :) Curious about Elite Force though; I have had this game for a few years now and have gone through several computers with both XP and 2000, and it never gave me any problems at all with the installation. I have always installed it using an administrator account though; maybe that …

Re: Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit

in Windows
I have uploaded the official 1.02 update below (3.93mb). All you have to do is unzip it to your main Need For Speed directory and run the update.bat file. http://www.geocities.com/skyfrog74/NFSUPD.htm Here is the Voodoo 2 trick as best I can remember. I have used it on both a TNT2 Ultra and Radeon …

Re: Indycar Racing 2 setup error in WinXP

in Windows
You will probably need to run the update from a 9x based system. You could use Virtual PC for this or do it from another computer. When you are finished updating the game copy the updated files to the game folder on your XP computer. If it asks to overwrite any existing game files let it do so. …

Re: Freezing at boot up in xp

in Windows
Any idea why this happened and what may have caused it? Just a guess but I'd say it was caused by spending all day "installing and uninstalling different glide wrappers". Some of them may have gotten left behind, in the registry for example, and when XP tries to initialize them it freezes. They …

Re: Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit

in Windows
You need to run the game in compatibility mode. This will fool a program into thinking it is running on a different OS. The link at the bottom of this post goes to a page that tells how to use compatibility mode. This should get the game running, but depending on your graphics card you may be …

Re: Oldskool Ampd (Unreal)

in Windows
I'm not really into online gaming either; of course my slow 56k connection doesn't help much. I bought UT a while back just to play the new single player mod Operation Na Pali. Found it on eBay for $5 so I figured why not. The only game I've played online was Elite Force, and only for a few days. My …

Re: Oldskool Ampd (Unreal)

in Windows
True, but I prefer running it under UT myself. You get a lot more features that way, and the updated engine seems to run a lot better on my system. It saves space too since you don't have to have separate copies of each game installed. 😀 Another good site: http://www.unrealsp.org

Oldskool Ampd (Unreal)

in Windows
In case anyone's interested.. I just spotted the thread about running the orginal Unreal using UT, and was surprised nobody mentioned this. For some reason the thread was closed so I'll post it here. It's a mod for UT that allows you to play the original single player game (and all addon maps, etc) …

Re: The Need for Speed

in DOS
I installed NASCAR Racing 1 and it found the card right away. Monkey Island also detected it with no troulbe. As for NFS I tried several switches including SB16 but none of them seem to make any difference. No big deal though, I was just playing around with it. Thanks for the suggestions 😀

Re: The Need for Speed

in DOS
Yes, it's working very well under Virtual PC on my good computer but I wanted to try it out on an old Pentium 75 machine that was recently given to me. The game itself runs fine but there is no sound. I was just wondering if there was something I'm not doing right. It is running MS-DOS 6.22, and the …

The Need for Speed

in DOS
This is actually about running an old game on an old computer, but I'm hoping someone will be able to help. I have a SoundBlaster 16 card which works fine with most games but when I try to play TNFS I get nothing. I am using the SB16 switch but it still doesn't work. Do I need some kind of settings …

Connectix Virtual PC

in PC Emulation
I finally tried this out and it's the answer to all of my problems. I can finally play old games that would not run properly on my hardware since it emulates an entire Pentium class PC with SB16 sound card and S3 graphics. The Need For Speed runs perfectly now without the menu controls going crazy. …

Re: Error Messages

in DOS
That Turbo Pascal patch is great! Now I can play EGA Trek again, among others. 😀

Re: Moo & Ems

in DOS
Have you tried different sound configurations, like adlib? Also double check the resource settings. It might be trying to initialise your soundcard and hanging up when it can't.

Re: Moo & Ems

in DOS
Actually I didn't change any settings at all. Even without using VDMSound the game works in XP by just launching it. The black screen takes about 20 seconds and then the game starts up. Of course I most likely have different hardware so there may be something about your PC it doesn't like. Here is …

Re: Help with the 7th guest on XP

in Windows
Thanks Stiletto :) Tried them out and I thought for sure the game was going to start, but this time it crashed giving me the NTVDM error. I guess that playing it under 2000/XP is out of the question without using the DirectX patch, which would be fine if it didn't run so fast. Back to the 7th Guest, …
