Re: DOSBox-X branch

I hope someone can help me... I used the latest dosbox-x version off of github. I am trying to run Tomb Raider 3DFX version. System is Mageia 4.0, video card is a crappy built-in Radeon HD 3000. Monitor is 1920x1080. I am running the ati driver (and in fact cannot even get fglrx to work). I have two …

Re: Windows 3.1 in 256 colours

When I downloaded dosbox it didn't come with a Windows 3.x guide. There doesn't seem to be a Windows 3.x guide at the start of this thread either. The drivers I used were the ones that you can find by going to http://support.creative.com/Products/product_list.aspx?catID=1&CatName=Sound+Blaster and …

Re: Windows 3.1 in 256 colours

I managed to fix the sound problem by setting the sound to sb16 and installing the SB16/AWE32 drivers from Creative (the SB16 drivers that are bundled with the DOS drivers do *not* work), so I've now got it more working than the guy in the other thread. The forced scaler, needless to say, doesn't …

Re: Windows 3.1 in 256 colours

using the driver of one brand with another is just plain *not thinking* How was I supposed to know that the driver wasn't for the same brand? Chipsets have different names from companies all the time, so it wasn't an obvious mistake. It was entirely plausible that the whole set from s3 to tseng was …

Re: Windows 3.1 in 256 colours

Because I didn't have any documentation that told me that wasn't the right card to use? Anyway, I was able to install it (using the 864141b5.zip driver) by installing as VGA and then doing setup after that to set it to S3 at 64K colors. It refused to install as S3 directly. This still gives me …

Re: Windows 3.1 in 256 colours

To the person who managed to get 64K colors, exactly what settings did you use? I tried Dosbox 0.74, machine=svga_et4000, and in Windows setup, selecting "S3 868 1.41B5 640x480 64K colors". Trying to do this failed and a second Windows setup told me it couldn't initialize the display; using VGA …

Is this supposed to work?

Dosbox 0.72, Mandriva Linux 2009, machine set to CGA http://www.oldskool.org/pc/cgacomp Run this, under M6845 compatibility, "textmode row reprogramming". This mode doesn't seem to work properly--it remains at 25 rows. It claims that the mode is used for several games; searching for the games here …

Daggerfall aspect ratio problem?

Dosbox 0.72, windowresolution=640x480, fullresolution=1280x1024 (on an LCD monitor of that resolution), aspect=true, output=overlay, running on Linux. Start Daggerfall, create a character, and get to the video clip of the emperor talking to you. The video clip seems stretched vertically (doesn't …

Next question: Midi configuration

I have a Waveblaster midi daughterboard on my soundcard. It's one of the last ISA SB-clones made, on one of the last consumer motherboards with an ISA slot made (which I got specifically so it would be easier to play DOS games directly). It works perfectly in Linux (Mandrake 10.1), and I can play …

Re: How do I get this screen configuration?

Why, so it does work. But there's a reason I thought it didn't. The "DOS" screen you get when you start up has 25 rows of 80 characters of dimensions 8x16--i.e. it's a lot like a 640x400 screen. But this DOS screen is drawn using square pixels--DOSBOX doesn't try to stretch it out to fit a 4:3 area, …

How do I get this screen configuration?

I have an 1280x1024 LCD monitor that only runs in particular resolutions, but always scales them up to cover the full monitor, and never shows bars at the top and bottom. A 1280x1024 monitor has a 5:4 aspect ratio, and other resolutions are mostly 4:3, which means that scaling them to cover the …

How do I set up a particular ALSA port for midi?

/home/arromdee/dosbox% aplaymidi -l Port Client name Port name 64:0 ADI SoundPort AD1816A MIDI - Raw ADI SoundPort AD1816A MIDI 65:0 OPL3 FM synth OPL3 FM Port When I start up Dosbox, it uses port 65:0. How do I tell it to use 64:0 instead? There is a configure file section for midi and one of the …
